인디 비주얼은 활발히 창작 활동을 이어가고 있는 동시대 작가들의 작품세계를 조명하는 기획이다.

올해는 실험 영화의 거장 로버트 비버스와 영상, 퍼포먼스, 설치를 넘나드는 작업으로 견고한 작품 세계를 구축하고 있는 차재민 작가의 작품을 선보인다. 로버트 비버스는 자전적 서사와 철학적 사유를 결합한 16mm 필름 작업으로 독보적인 미학을 구축해온 작가로, 그의 작품은 대부분 디지털화되지 않아 관람 기회가 매우 드물다. 이번 상영은 로버트 비버스의 주요 작품들을 직접 만날 수 있는 특별한 기회가 될 것이며, 로버트 비버스 감독이 직접 한국을 방문해 관객과의 만남도 예정되어 있다. 차재민은 시각예술과 다큐멘터리의 가능성과 한계를 비판적으로 질문하며, 이미지 재현의 조건과 감각의 정치성에 천착해왔다. 현장 조사와 인터뷰를 바탕으로 개인의 삶에 스며든 사회의 흔적을 탐색하는 한편, 보이는 것과 들리는 것, 말과 몸 사이의 어긋남을 통해 인식과 판단의 구조를 실험적으로 재구성하는 작업을 이어오고 있다. 이번 프로그램에서는 두 작가의 작품을 통해 서로 다른 세대와 매체, 시선이 만들어내는 미적 충돌과 감각의 교차점을 경험할 수 있을 것이다.

Indi-Visual is a curated program that spotlights the creative worlds of contemporary artists actively engaged in their practice.

This year, it features works by experimental film master Robert Beavers and Jeamin Cha, whose practice spans video, performance, and installation, building a robust and distinctive artistic universe. Robert Beavers is known for his unique aesthetic combining autobiographical narratives with philosophical inquiry through 16mm film. Since most of his works remain undigitized, opportunities to view them are extremely rare. This screening offers a special chance to experience key works by Beavers in person, with the director himself scheduled to visit Korea for audience discussions. Jeamin Cha critically examines the possibilities and limitations of visual art and documentary, focusing on the conditions of image representation and the politics of perception. Through field research and interviews, Cha explores the traces of society embedded in individual lives, while experimentally reconstructing structures of cognition and judgment by highlighting disjunctions between seeing and hearing, speech and body. This program invites audiences to encounter the aesthetic tensions and sensory intersections generated by the differing generations, media, and perspectives of these two artists.
