EX-Now

경쟁부문 EX-Now 상영작은 4개월 동안 공모를 통해 접수된 총 81개국 1,500여 편의 작품들과 국내외 배급사 작품들 가운데서 예심 위원들의 리뷰를 통해 결정되었다. 보다 의미 있는 작품을 고른다는 것은 고민, 질문, 확인이라는 과정의 연속이었다. 그 결과 총 37편의 작품이 9개의 섹션을 통해 상영되며, 국제 (EX-Now 1~6)와 국내 (EX-Now 7~9) 부문으로 구분되어 상영된다. 심사위원단의 심사를 통해 최종 3편의 수상작이 결정된다.

EXiS’ Programming team reviewed more than 1,500 films received through submissions and also some films from distributors to compile its competition program: EX-Now. The competition program, in which 37 films produced in 18 countries are screened, is divided into international competition (EX-Now 1~4) and domestic competition (EX-Now 5~6). Three films will receive awards as determined by the jury members.

EX-Choice

기획 부문 EX-Choice은 동시대 무빙 이미지와 실험 영화의 맥락을 다양한 관점에서 접근하고, 앞으로 주목해야 할 경향을 소개하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 매년 특정한 주제를 가지고 영화를 역사적 관점에서 혁신적 측면에 이르기까지 폭넓게 어레인지한다. 2023년 주제는 “한국 실험영화 2004~2022”이다. EXiS 1회 ~ 17회 동안 상영한 한국 작품들 가운데 주요 작품들을 5개의 프로그램으로 재배치하였다.

또한 라트비아의 노아스 아트센터 (NOASS art centre)와 준비한 교류 프로그램, ‘자연 근접성: 라트비아 실험 비디오 아트’도 상영된다. 라트비아 비디오 작가들의 최근 작품들로 구성된 이 프로그램은 인간 중심의 환경관에 대한 질문을 던지고 있다.

This is a curatorial section to present contemporary moving image and to address the framework of experimental films in various ways. Based on specific themes every year, this section explores wide arrange of films from historical perspectives to innovate aspects. The theme of 2023 is “Korean Experimental Films 2004~2022”. Among the Korean films screened during EXiS 1st edition (2004) to 17th edition (2020), major works are rearranged into 5 programs. (EX-Choice 1-5)

In addition, an exchange program prepared with the NOASS art center in Latvia, ‘Natural Proximity: Experimental Latvian Video Art’ will be screened. Composed of recent works by Latvian moving image artists, this program raises questions about the human-centered perspective of the environment. (EX-Choice 6)

Indi-Visual

인디 비주얼은 왕성하게 활동하고 있는 동시대 작가의 작품세계를 조명하는 기획이다. 올해에는 태국의 아피찻퐁 위라세타쿤, 독일의 우테 오란드가 내한한다. 아피찻퐁 위라세타쿤은 쉽게 보기 힘든 감독의 단편 작품들을 포함한 주요 단편 작품들을 선보인다. 독일의 대표적인 실험영화 감독인 우테 오란드는 자신의 대표작을 필름으로 상영한다. 또한 90년대부터 기획자로서 활발히 활동한 감독은 EXiS에서도 세번째 프로그램을 동료 여성 감독들의 주요 작품을 소개하는 섹션으로 준비했다.

Indi-Visual section invites two contemporary artists, Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Ute Aurand presenting their essential body of works in person.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul screens major short films, including the director's rarely seen short films. As a key figure in experimental film scene in Berlin, Ute Aurand screens her representative works on film. Also, she has been active as a programmer since the 1990s, and for this program at EXiS, she prepares the third program as a section introducing major works by fellow female directors.

EX-Retro

실험 영화 역사에 있어서 중요한 감독들의 작품을 소개하는 EX-Retro는 올해 두 명의 감독을 소개한다. 2014년부터 시작된 스탠 브래키지의 회고전은 올해 10년간의 회고전의 막을 내린다. 올해는 브래키지의 5편의 단편 작품과 감독의 자전적 성격의 작품 <고통의 먼지> (Tortured Dust)을 상영한다. 또한 일본의 선구자적인 아방가르드 아티스트 타카히코 이이무라의 중요한 실험영화 작품들을 집중적으로 소개한다.

EX-Retro, which introduces the works of important directors in the history of experimental cinema, introduces two directors this year. The retrospective of Stan Brakhage, which started in 2014, ends this year's 10-year retrospective. This year, Brakhage's five short films and the director's autobiographical work <Tortured Dust> will be screened. Another director is Japan's pioneering avant-garde artist Takahiko Iimura, and his major experimental films will be introduced.

Asia Forum

아시아의 대안적 영상문화와 실험영화의 역사 연구를 위해 마련된 섹션이다. 올해는 대만과 일본 양국에서 열리는 non-syntax Experimental Image와의 교류 프로그램을 상영하며, 프로그램의 주제는 시차(SISA)이다.

This section is designed to study the history of alternative visual culture and experimental films in Asia. In 2023, the exchange program will be screened between non-syntax Experimental Image in Tokyo and EXiS. The theme of program is time difference.

EX-Index

2023년 새롭게 선보인 프로그램이다. 이전 영화제에서 상영된 주요 프로그램을 다시 상영하면서 실험영화의 주요 감독과 작품을 재조명 하는 것이 목적이다.  2023년에는 마이클 스노우의 중요 작품 세 편이 상영된다.

This is the new program introduced in 2023. The program revisits the programs of past editions and bring them into the current edition in order to highlight important figures of experimental film scenes. In 2023, Michael Snow’s three important works will be screened.

avp show

AVP SHOW는 오디오 비주얼 퍼포먼스의 약자로, 20주년을 맞아 EXiS에서 처음으로 선보이는 공연 섹션이다. 22일 토요일부터 26일 수요일까지 국내 중진급 작가들의 라이브 퍼포먼스를 관람할 수 있다. 문래예술공장 2층 박스씨어터에서 오후 8시에 진행하며, 총 다섯 팀의 공연으로 이루어진다.
