Description

I graduated in 2001, the year of 9/11. Living in Chicago, I often stood on the rooftop of my apartment, looking across winter trees and empty rooftops. The landscape felt isolated and lonely. Forlorn was filmed there, and while making it I began independently experimenting with splitting the frame, only later realising many filmmakers before me had explored similar ideas.

나는 2001년, 9.11 테러가 일어난 해에 졸업했다. 시카고를 떠나며, 난 종종 아파트 옥상에 올라가 겨울 나무들과 텅 빈 옥상들을 바라보곤 했다. 그 풍경은 고립되고 외롭게 느껴졌다. 《고독》은 바로 그곳에서 촬영되었고, 이 작품을 만드는 동안 나는 화면을 분할하는 방식을 독자적으로 실험하기 시작했다. 훗날에야 이미 많은 필름메이커들이 비슷한 아이디어를 탐구했다는 사실을 알게 되었다.
