Indi-Visual은 현재 왕성하게 활동하고 있는 국내외 작가를 선정하여 그 작품 세계를 집중적으로 조명하는 프로그램이다. 활동 지역과 장르를 고려하여 다양한 작가를 소개하되, 영화와 미술의 경계를 나누지 않고 폭넓게 기획한다. 작품 상영과 작가와의 만남을 통해 동시대 실험적 실천의 맥락과 가능성을 관객과 함께 탐색하는 것을 목표로 한다. 2026년에는 영국 실험영화의 선구자인 가이 셔윈(Guy Sherwin)과 린 루(Lynn Loo), 싱가포르의 마크 추아 & 람 리 슈엔(Mark Chua & Lam Li Shuen)을 초대하여 상영 및 퍼포먼스 프로그램을 선보이며, 이 프로그램은 핸드메이드 필름랩 스페이스 셀(Space Cell)과의 협력으로 진행된다.
Indi-Visual is a program dedicated to spotlighting the work of actively practicing artists from Korea and abroad. Attentive to each artist's geographic context and working medium, the program introduces a range of artists without drawing boundaries between film and visual art. Through screenings and direct encounters with the artists, Indi-Visual aims to explore the contexts and possibilities of contemporary experimental practice together with its audiences. In 2026, the program invites Guy Sherwin and Lynn Loo, pioneers of British experimental film, alongside Singapore-based Mark Chua & Lam Li Shuen, presenting a program of screenings and live performances. The program is presented in collaboration with a handmade film lab Space-Cell.

가이 셔윈
가이 셔윈은 런던 영화 제작자 협동조합(London Film-Makers’ Cooperative)에 합류하기 전 회화를 공부했다. 그곳에서 필름 랩 기술을 포함한 필름 제작의 전 과정을 익혔다. 재료 중심의 엄격한 접근법은 그에게 훌륭한 훈련이 되었으며, 영화 제작과 상영의 모든 요소를 탐구의 대상으로 바라보게 했다. 그의 작업을 이루는 여러 갈래는 모두 그곳에서 시작되었다. 한 롤의 필름으로 완성하는 무성 영화, 카메라 이미지나 손으로 직접 만든 사운드, 스크린의 물질성과 퍼포먼스 공간을 활용한 실험 등이 그것이다. 린 루와의 협업은 이러한 아이디어를 다중 프로젝션과 디지털 형식으로 확장했지만, 작업의 접근 방식은 지금도 변함없이 이어지고 있다.
그는 린 루와 함께 런던, 로테르담, 멜버른, 싱가포르에서 핸드메이드 필름, 필름 프린팅, 프로젝션 워크숍을 진행해왔다.
2012년에는 런던 캠던 아트 센터(Camden Arts Centre)에서 확장영화를 주제로 한 전시 《Film in Space》의 객원 큐레이터를 맡았다.
런던의 아티스트 필름 배급 기관 LUX는 그의 작업을 세 권의 DVD·북 컬렉션으로 출간했다. 《Short Film Series 1975–2014》(2014), 《Messages》(2010), 《Optical Sound Films 1971–2007》(2007)이 그것이다.
주요 개인전으로는 《Light Cycles》(Christine Park Gallery, 런던, 2016), 《Movements in Light》(Siobhan Davies Studios, 런던, 2011), 《Vitrine》(Atopia Gallery, 오슬로, 2011) 등이 있으며, 단채널 영화들은 세계 각지에서 상영 및 전시되었다.
암스테르담의 아이 필름뮤지엄(EYE Filmmuseum)은 그의 16mm 필름 원본 아카이브를 다수 소장하고 있다. 또한 작품은 런던의 테이트, 파리의 시네마테크 프랑세즈, 호주 국립도서관(National Library of Australia), 파리의 Light Cone, 샌프란시스코의 캐니언 시네마(Canyon Cinema) 등 여러 기관의 컬렉션에 소장되어 있다.
현재 런던 해크니에 거주하며, 울버햄프턴 대학교, 런던 미들섹스 대학교, 샌프란시스코 아트 인스티튜트에서 영화와 순수미술을 가르쳤다.
Guy Sherwin
I studied painting before joining the London Film-Makers’ Cooperative where I learned the processes of film, which included the laboratory technology housed there. The rigours of a material-based approach was a good training for me, and opened up all aspects of film making and exhibition as potential for exploration.
The various threads of my practice originated there: silent one-roll camera films; sounds made from camera images or by hand; playing with the material of the screen and the space of performance. My collaboration with Lynn Loo has extended these ideas into multi-projection or digital forms, but the approach remains the same.
Together with Lynn we have run workshops in hand-made film, printing and projection in London, Rotterdam, Melbourne, Singapore. In 2012 I was guest curator for Camden Arts Centre, London of Film in Space, a gallery exhibition of expanded cinema. The artists' film agency LUX (London) has published three DVD/book collections of my work: Short Film Series 1975-2014 (2014), Messages (2010), Optical Sound Films 1971-2007 (2007),
My solo gallery exhibitions include Light Cycles, Christine Park Gallery, London 2016; Movements in Light, Siobhan Davies Studios; London 2011, Vitrine, Atopia Gallery Oslo 2011. My single screen films have been exhibited internationally.
EYE Institute Amsterdam holds many of my 16mm film archive masters. The films are also in collections including Tate Gallery London, Cinematheque Francaise, National Library of Australia, Light Cone Paris, Canyon Cinema San Francisco.
I live in Hackney, London. and have taught film and fine art at the Universities of Wolverhampton and Middlesex London and at San Francisco Art Institute.
린 루
린 루는 원래 음악 교사로 교육을 받았으며, 1997년 첫 영화를 만든 뒤 영화 제작을 공부하기 위해 시카고 예술대학교(School of the Art Institute of Chicago)에 진학했다. 이 시기의 작품들은 움직이는 이미지와 사운드의 역동성을 탐구하며, 말 없는 일종의 서사를 형성하는 데 주목했다. 2004년 영국으로 이주한 이후에는 영화에 대한 물질주의적·구조주의적 접근에 몰두하며 확장영화를 제작했고, 영국의 영화감독 가이 셔윈과 간헐적으로 협업하기도 했다.
린은 일상적 경험과 구조적 개념 사이의 시각적·청각적 연결을 세심한 관찰을 통해 탐구한다. 16mm 필름과 비디오를 넘나들며 작업하는 그의 실천은 크게 과정 중심의 작업과 인상주의적 작업으로 나뉘며, 단채널 영화, 설치, 라이브 다중 프로젝션 퍼포먼스 등 다양한 형식으로 선보인다.
그의 작품은 세계 각국의 영화, 사운드, 예술 페스티벌은 물론 여러 기관과 갤러리에서 상영 및 전시되었다. 또한 2010년 EXiS 영화제를 비롯한 다양한 아티스트 필름 프로그램을 기획하기도 했다.
예술 활동과 더불어 린은 여러 도시에서 영화 워크숍을 진행해 왔으며, 미들섹스 대학교(Middlesex University)에서 객원 강사로도 활동하고 있다. 또한 필름 보존가로 일하고 있으며, 확장영화 작품 《Autumn Fog》의 재연(re-enactment)과 배급을 위한 지침서를 루이즈 커럼 박사와 공동으로 작성했다.
Lynn Loo
Originally trained as a music teacher, Lynn made her first film in 1997 before entering the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to study filmmaking. During this period, her films explored the dynamism of moving images and sound, forming a kind of narrative without words. In 2004, she moved to the UK, where she immersed herself in materialist and structural approaches to cinema, producing expanded cinema works and occasionally collaborating with UK filmmaker Guy Sherwin.
Lynn explores visual and sonic connections between everyday experience and structural ideas through close observations. Working across 16mm film and video, her practice can broadly be divided into process-based and impressionistic works, presented as single-channel films, installations, and live multiple-projection performances.
Her films have been shown at international film, sound, and arts festivals, as well as in institutions and galleries. She has also curated artist film programmes, including the EXiS Film & Video Festival in 2010.
Alongside her artistic practice, Lynn has led film workshops in various cities and is an occasional lecturer at Middlesex University. She also works as a film conservator and collaborated with Dr. Louise Curham on a set of instructions for the re-enactment and distribution of her expanded cinema work Autumn Fog.
마크 추아 & 람 리 슈엔
마크 추아(Mark Chua, 1992년생)와 람 리 슈엔(Lam Li Shuen, 1996년생)은 영화, 익스팬디드 시네마 퍼포먼스, 설치 작업을 넘나들며 활동하는 싱가포르 기반의 영화감독·아티스트 듀오이다. 이들은 사변적 픽션(speculative fiction)과 멀티미디어 연출을 통해 역사, 물질성, 실존적 불안이 교차하는 지점을 탐구한다.
두 사람은 독립 영화 제작 스튜디오 Emoumie의 공동 설립자이기도 하다. 이들의 작품은 2024·2023년 로테르담국제영화제, 2023년 뉴 디렉터스/뉴 필름스(MoMA·링컨센터 공동 개최), 2021년 BFI 런던영화제, 2026년 클레르몽페랑 국제단편영화제 등 세계 유수의 영화제에서 상영되었다.
2021년 단편 <A Man Trembles>로 싱가포르국제영화제 최우수 동남아시아 감독상을 수상했으며, 같은 해 단편 <The Cup>으로 줄리어스 베어 넥스트 제너레이션 아트 프라이즈(Julius Baer Next Generation Art Prize) 무빙 이미지 부문 대상을 받았다.
추아와 람은 마이크로컨트롤러 시스템을 장착하도록 직접 개조한 16mm 영사기를 활용한 익스팬디드 시네마 퍼포먼스를 꾸준히 선보이고 있으며, 베를린국제영화제(독일), EX!T 페스티벌(대만), Painting With Light(싱가포르), Videoex(스위스) 등에서 공연했다. 또한 아트록 듀오 ARE로 활동하며 여러 장의 음반을 발표했다.
최근 전시 및 설치 작업으로는 〈Before and After the Unknown〉(Singapore Art Week, 2025), 〈A Lotus Turns To Light〉(ArtScience Museum, 2024), 〈Silhouettes of Having Been〉(Objectifs Centre for Photography and Film, 2024)이 있다. 2024년에는 에스플러네이드 현대공연예술 리서치 레지던시(Esplanade Contemporary Performing Arts Research Residency)에 참여했다.
현재 장편 프로젝트 〈Strange Root (기이한 뿌리)〉를 개발 중이며, 이 프로젝트는 CineMart 2025, Locarno Residency 2025, Berlinale Talents Script Station 2024, Full Circle Lab Philippines 2024, mylab+@Jogja 2023, Talents Tokyo 2023에 선정되었다.
Mark Chua & Lam Li Shuen
Mark Chua (b.1992) and Lam Li Shuen (b.1996) are a filmmaker-artist duo who work across film, expanded cinema performance and installations. Their works explore the intersections of histories, materialities and existential anxieties, through speculative fiction and multimedia stagings. They are based in Singapore.
The duo are co-founders of Emoumie, an independent film production studio. Their films have screened at international film festivals including the International Film Festival Rotterdam (2024, 2023), New Directors/New Films (2023) presented by MoMA and Film at Lincoln Center, BFI London Film Festival (2021) and Clermont-Ferrand (2026) In 2021, with their short film A Man Trembles, they were awarded Best Southeast Asian Director at the Singapore International Film Festival. Their short film The Cup received the First Prize (Moving Images) of the Julius Baer Next Generation Art Prize in 2021.
Chua and Lam also regularly present 16mm expanded cinema performances utilizing self-modified 16mm projectors retrofitted with microcontroller systems, and have performed at festivals such as Berlinale (Germany), EX!T Festival (Taiwan), Painting With Light (Singapore) and Videoex (Switzerland).
They have also released multiple albums as the art rock duo ARE.
Their recent exhibitions and installations include: Before and After the Unknown (Singapore Art Week 2025), A Lotus Turns To Light (ArtScience Museum, 2024), Silhouettes of Having Been (Objectifs Centre for Photography and Film, 2024). They were residents of the Esplanade Contemporary Performing Arts Research Residency in 2024.
They are currently developing their feature project, Strange Root (Keinginan), which was selected for CineMart 2025, Locarno Residency 2025, Berlinale Talents Script Station 2024, Full Circle Lab Philippines 2024, mylab+@Jogja 2023 and Talents Tokyo 2023.
