Description

Diana Tamane's mother became a long-distance driver after her company went bankrupt. Since 2014, she has been traveling around Europe, exporting various goods. Sometimes she sends Diana emails and video clips filmed along the way. "Letters from Mom III, Mishana" is the story of Mishan, a little mouse who joined her mother on one of the trips. The video is a collection of footage from the mother-filmed vlogs and the artist's observations of nature, captured around the same time.

디아나 타마네의 어머니는 회사가 파산한 후 장거리 운전사가 되었다. 2014년부터 유럽을 돌며 다양한 상품을 운송하고 있다. 이동중에 때때로 그녀는 디아나에게 이메일과 비디오 클립을 보낸다. "엄마에게서 온 편지 III, 미샤나"는 어머니와 함께 여행을 떠난 작은 생쥐 미샨의 이야기이다. 이 작품은 거의 같은 시기에 촬영한 어머니의 브이로그 영상과 작가의 자연관찰 영상 모음집이다.

Bio

Diāna Tamane (b.1986) was born in Riga, and lives and works between Tartu and Riga. Her works are based on personal stories that mostly take shape through the collecting and assembling of her own daily experiences, impressions, habits and memories, as well as those of her relatives. To carry out this anthropological activity, the artist mostly uses stills and video, documenting the protagonists of her stories as well as their living spaces. In several of her projects, she has also used vernacular photography, memorabilia or keepsakes as source material. In the artist’s works, family albums, documents and private correspondence are transformed into catalysts, making it possible to reveal not only touching autobiographical stories but also apt portrayals of society and recent history.
Tamane graduated from the Tartu Art College (BA), the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels (MA) and HISK post-academic residency programme in Ghent. Her works have been exhibited at Kyiv Biennial 2021, the first Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art, Tartu Art Museum, Estonian Contemporary Art Museum (Estonia), S.M.A.K Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art (Belgium), Winterthur Museum (Switzerland), Kathmandu Triennale (Nepal), Surplus Space (China) and elsewhere. In 2020, APE published Tamane’s first book Flower Smuggler, which received the Recontres d’Arles Book Award and was shortlisted for the Paris-Photo Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Award.
