Description

서울 한 가운데, 과거나 현재라는 선형적 시간의 궤도로부터 비껴있는 장소들이 있다. ‹사라진 인물들과 사라지지 않은 세계 혹은 그 반대›는 40여 년전 개관 후 2010년 문을 닫은 ‘바다극장', 1950년대 지어진 주상복합 아파트인 ‘중앙아파트', 을지로의 프린트 골목, 시계 골목 등의 시공간의 이미지들을 포착한다. 장소가 살아가는 고유의 방식, 각자의 시간과 흐름을 갖고 공존하는 ‘장소의 의지'에 대한 사유를 바탕으로, 무형으로 존재하는 것들의 움직임과 응축된 에너지에 대한 감각을 영상으로 그린다.

People who disappeared, the world that didn’t, or vice versa captures spatial and temporal images mixed with multi-levels beings escaped from the orbit of linear time of the present and the past including ‘Bada(The Sea) Theatre’ located in Cheonggyechon 4-ga, opening almost 40 years ago and closing in 2010, ‘Jungang Apartment’, the first multi-purposed apartment in Korea built in the 1950s, and ‘Clock Alley’, ‘Print Alley’ in Euljiro. Based on ideas about the way spaces survive and the “will of space” co- existing with their own time and flow, I visualize the movement of intangible things and the sense of condensed energies.

차미혜는 서로 다른 세계의 다양한 개체들이 비정형적으로 관계 맺는 방식에 주목한다. 단단해 보이는 기준과 경계들이 모호해지는 지점에 관심을 갖고, 세계의 일부를 이루는 연약한 것들이나 미약해 보이는 개체들을 조명한다. 학습된 언어로 발화되지 않는 목소리, 통제나 예측이 불가능한 사건, 전면적으로 드러나지 않는 존재의 의지나 생명력 등을 영상, 퍼포먼스, 설치 등으로 형상화한다.

Mihye Cha focuses on how different objects in different worlds relate atypically. Paying attention to the blurring points of seemingly rigid standards and boundaries, Cha sheds light on the fragile or feeble-looking objects that form parts of the world. Cha features voices that are not spoken in the learned language, events that cannot be controlled or predicted, and the will or vitality of existence that is not fully revealed, through video, performance, installation, etc.
