<트리거 해피>는 뉴욕의 길가에서 주운 수 백개의 물체로 만든 영화다. 나는 로어 이스트 사이드에 있는 내 스튜디오로 한 시간 동안 걷는 동안 이상한 물체를 한 통 정도 주웠다. 영화를 만들어 이것들을 없애고, 이 영화는 일종의 그들을 위한 바이킹 장례식이었다. 영화는 애니메이션 발레를 만들려는 시도로 시작되었지만 촬영을 하다 보니 밤에 어울릴 법한 춤으로 변하고 있었다. 콘트라스트가 높은 필름으로 라이트 박스 위에서 촬영을 했고, 사물들의 실루엣은 그래픽적인 표상을 만들었다. 촬영 결과 네거티브에서 사물은 흑백으로, 배경은 아스팔트처럼 검정색이었다. 이런 색조화는 사물의 움직임을 환상적으로 만들었다. 나를 행복하게 했던 것은 카메라 위에서였지만 작품의 제목은 한편으로 이미지적인 속도에 어울리기도 한다. 사물을 지속적으로 재빠르게 대치하면서 애니메이션을 만들었다. 끊임없이 다른 모양으로 대체될 때의 움직임이 당신의 눈에 생기는 잔상이다.  영화에 사용한 음악은 키스 리처즈의 기타 연주로, <거리에서 춤>의 레게 버전이다.

Trigger Happy was made with hundreds of objects found on the streets and sidewalks of New York. I had picked up a barrel of odd things on my hour walk to and from my Lower East Side studio. I had decided to get rid of them, and this film was to be a sort of Viking funeral for them. 

The film began as an attempt to make an animated ballet, but as I was shooting the dance turned rowdy, into more of a nocturnal revel. It was shot on a light box with high-contrast film. The backlight silhouetted the objects, making them into graphic icons of themselves. The resulting film is a negative, which turned the objects white and the background black as asphalt. It makes the dance almost phantasmagoric. 

The trigger I was happy about was on the camera, but the title also fits the velocity of the imagery. Much of the animation happens by the rapid replacement of one object with another. It’s the afterimage in your eyes that animates the difference between the shapes, as one is replaced by another, and another...
