<미궁과 크로마키>는 섬세한 카메라 움직임과 크로마키 기법을 이용한 영상 작업이다. 이 영상은 케이블을 설치하는 손과 설치 동작은 같지만 노동 가치가 거세된 손을 병치하고 있다. ‘손’이라는 은유는 노동 소외를 가장 극대화하면서 동시에 전문가, 장인이라는 미명아래 노동을 신성화한다. 요컨대 손노동의 과정은 노동의 결과물로부터 도외시된다. 그러나 때로 손노동은 숙련된 기술이자 자아를 실현하는 활동으로 여겨지기도 한다. 이렇게 양쪽으로 찢어진 극단의 추상성은 노동을 인격으로부터 분리하고 노동을 통제할 수 있다는 환상을 불러일으킨다. 이 작업은 우리가 ‘노동’이라는 단어를 사용하면서, ‘노동’을 제대로 감각하고 있는지를 질문한다. 또한, 실제적인 노동 과정을 가려버리는 추상화의 장막을 거둬 낼 가능성을 발견하고자 했다.

Chroma-key and Labyrinth is a short video made using the Chroma key compositing technique and delicate camera movements. This video juxtaposes two kinds of “hand movements”: a cable- worker’s hands installing cables and the same hand-movements removed out of their work context, thereby stripped of any value of labor. The “hand” symbolizes two conflicting meanings: it stands for the excessive isolation of each process of manual work, but it is also used to mythicize craftsmanship. The process of manual work is isolated from its products. But it is also exalted as a skilled technique or a critical tool to seek one’s self-fulfillment. The polarized abstract receptions of manual labor could create the illusion that labor can be removed from the personalities of the individual, and can be controlled only for the sake of productivity. This video questions how accurately we perceive the word “labor”, while saying it. The video also tries to find the possibility to unveil the process of abstraction that occludes the real effects of physical labor.
