Description

‘in thin air’ attempts to touch the invisible plane of pure image wedged between camera and subject, to move the world within the frame rather than turning the frame towards the world. Ruptures in the image allow visible subjects to be woven and sifted through the weave of the edit like strands of hair through fingers.

<허공 속에서>는 카메라와 피사체 사이에 끼어 있는 순수 이미지의 보이지 않는 평면을 만져보려는 시도이자, 프레임을 세계를 향해 돌리기보다 프레임 안에서 세계를 움직이려는 시도다. 이미지의 균열은 눈에 보이는 피사체들이 마치 손가락 사이로 흘러내리는 머리카락 가닥처럼, 편집의 직조 속으로 엮이고 걸러지도록 만든다.

Bio

Rushnan Jaleel is a filmmaker and artist based in Mumbai, India. He graduated from Emerson College and Paris College of Art in 2022, having earned a Global BFA in Film Art.

His work stems from a fascination with dreams, consciousness, the unknowable, and the limitations of the image, of the body and of vision. His practice approaches these ideas through the use of low-end cameras, rephotography, and various ways of creating superimpositions through both in-camera and editing techniques.

러시난 잘릴은 인도 뭄바이를 기반으로 활동하는 영화감독이자 예술가다. 에머슨 칼리지와 파리 미술대학(Paris College of Art)을 졸업하고 2022년 영화 예술(Film Art)로 글로벌 BFA(학사) 학위를 받았다.

그의 작업은 꿈, 의식, 알 수 없는 것, 그리고 이미지와 신체 및 시각의 한계에 대한 매혹에서 출발한다. 그는 저가형 카메라의 사용, 재촬영(rephotography), 그리고 카메라 내부 및 편집 기술을 통한 다양한 다중 노출(superimposition) 방식을 활용하여 이러한 아이디어에 접근한다.
