Description

사진소설은 2011년부터 고향을 촬영해 온 사진들이 켜켜이 쌓여 만들어졌다. 몇 이미지는 제주 본토집을 오가며 한 작업으로 땅이 준 재료들- 오징어뼈, 새의 깃털, 귤 밭의 유기물 등으로 아날로그 필름에 정착시킨 이미지로 이뤄져있다. 이 수천장의 사진을 영상으로 전환하며 할아버지 세대의 비극을 재현하려는 것이 아니라, 그들이 다시 땅을 일구고 삶을 이어온 터에 대한 기억을 소환한다.

<fotofiction> is composed of layers of photographs taken in the filmmaker's hometown since 2011. Some of the images were created through an ongoing practice between Jeju and the mainland, using materials gathered from the land—cuttlefish bones, bird feathers, organic matter from tangerine orchards, and other natural elements—to imprint images directly onto analogue film. By transforming thousands of these photographs into moving images, the film does not seek to reenact the tragedy experienced by the filmmaker's grandfather's generation. Instead, it evokes memories of the land where they rebuilt their lives, cultivated the soil, and carried on.

Born in Jeju in 1986, HWIHWI has made three short films in addition to <fotofiction>(2026).
