Description

The tongue that grasps is a short film which embodies and imagines the psychedelic experiences of early parenthood and early childhood, exploring the entanglements of the cosmic and the domestic in the context of the birth and growth of the artists’ first child. The work emerges from broader research into 1960s and 70s counterculture, which represents the (unfulfilled) promise of a way of living otherwise.

<움켜쥐는 혀>는 부모가 된 초반의 시기와 초기 유아기가 선사하는 사이키델릭한 경험을 구체화하고 상상하는 단편 영화다. 작가 부부의 첫 아이가 태어나고 자라는 맥락 속에서 우주적인 것과 가정적인 것의 얽힘을 탐구한다. 이 작품은 '대안적인 삶의 방식'이라는 (실현되지 못한) 약속을 대변하는 1960~70년대 반문화(counterculture)에 대한 폭넓은 리서치에서 출발했다.

Bio

Marta Hryniuk is a visual artist, filmmaker and programmer based in Rotterdam. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Arts in Poznań, Academy of Art in Szczecin, and the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. Her works bridge documentary film, artists’ moving image and installation. She works in a long-term collaboration with Nick Thomas. She is co-founder of WET, a Rotterdam-based collective for production and presentation of moving image work and co-director of Field Recordings, an experimental film festival in Rotterdam. She co-run Silverado (2013–17) and is a member of Filmwerkplaats.

마르타 흐리니우크는 네덜란드 로테르담을 기반으로 활동하는 시각 예술가이자 영화감독, 프로그래머다. 포즈난(Poznań) 예술대학교, 슈체친 예술아카데미, 로테르담 피트 즈바르트 인스티튜트(Piet Zwart Institute)에서 순수미술을 공부했다. 다큐멘터리 영화, 아티스트 무빙 이미지, 설치 미술을 아우르는 작업을 선보이고 있으며, 닉 토마스(Nick Thomas)와 오랫동안 협업을 이어오고 있다. 로테르담 기반의 무빙 이미지 제작 및 상영 콜렉티브인 'WET'의 공동 창립자이자, 로테르담의 실험 영화제인 '필드 레코딩스(Field Recordings)'의 공동 디렉터다. 예술가 운영 공간인 실버라도(Silverado, 2013~17)를 공동 운영했으며, 예술가 주도 필름 랩인 '필름베르크플라츠(Filmwerkplaats)'의 멤버이기도 하다.

Nick Thomas is an artist based in Rotterdam, originally from the UK, working with moving image and sound. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and the Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam. He has been involved with various artist-run projects, such as Transmission Gallery and Glasgow Open House Arts Festival. His work tackles relationships between form and politics, with a particular interest in the aesthetics of coexistence, radical histories, and self-organising. For the past several years, he has been working in collaboration with Marta Hryniuk.

닉 토마스는 영국 출신으로, 현재 로테르담을 기반으로 무빙 이미지와 사운드를 매체로 작업하는 아티스트다. 그는 글래스고 스쿨 오브 아트와 로테르담의 피에트 츠바르트 인스티튜트에서 공부했으며 Transmission Gallery 와 Glasgow Open House Arts Festival 같은 아티스트 주도 프로젝트에 참여해왔다. 그의 작품은 공존의 미학, 급진적 역사, 그리고 자기조직화에 특별한 관심을 두며 형식과 정치의 관계를 탐구한다. 지난 몇 년간 마르타 흐리니우크와 협업해 작업을 이어오고 있다.
