Description

Old Slab proposes an alternative approach to document space. The film chronicles a dwelling of thirty years in Fu Shan Estate, a public housing estate in Hong Kong. The residential block adopts the style of ‘Old Slab’, where the building is an elongated rectangular structure with 34 flats internally connected by a single corridor.

Shot on 16mm film, the seven chapters of the work unfold under a spatial-driven mode of documentation to capture building structures, environmental changes, and a family's process of vacating their home. The camera drifts from the communal spaces of the estate into the confines of a flat, occasionally shifting its standing afar in search of home. Old Slab records urban housing, domestic space, and remembers a defining frame of a family's history.

<올드 슬랩>은 공간을 기록하는 대안적인 접근 방식을 제안한다. 이 영화는 홍콩의 공공 주택 단지인 푸산 에스테이트(Fu Shan Estate)에서 보낸 30년간의 주거 기록을 연대기 순으로 담아낸다. 이 주거 블록은 하나의 단일 복도로 내부의 34세대가 연결된 길쭉한 직사각형 구조를 띤 '올드 슬랩(구형 판상형)' 스타일을 채택하고 있다.

16mm 필름으로 촬영된 이 작품의 7개 장은 공간 중심의 기록 방식을 따라 건물의 구조, 환경적 변화, 그리고 한 가족이 집을 비우는 과정을 포착하며 전개된다. 카메라는 주택 단지의 공용 공간에서 아파트라는 개인적 공간의 경계 안으로 흘러 들어가고, 때로는 집을 찾아 멀리서 바라보는 시선으로 전환된다. <올드 슬랩>은 도시의 주거와 가정의 공간을 기록하는 동시에, 한 가족의 역사에서 결정적인 한 장면을 기억한다.

Bio

LI San-Kit (b.1994, Hong Kong) is an experimental filmmaker and a photo-based artist. His practice brings the machine into the periphery of the image, reestablishing a visible layer which preserves the intent of image-making and embodies an application of rationale. With machine as the agent, the photographed subject binds closely to the documentation process. His work takes the form of 16mm film, photography, video, installation and photo-objects.

리 산킷은 1994년 홍콩에서 태어난 실험 영화감독이자 사진 기반의 예술가다. 그의 작업은 기계를 이미지의 주변부로 가져옴으로써, 이미지를 만드는 의도를 보존하고 이성의 적용을 구체화하는 가시적인 레이어를 재정립한다. 기계를 매개체로 삼음으로써 피사체는 기록의 과정과 밀접하게 결합된다. 그의 작품은 16mm 필름, 사진, 비디오, 설치 및 사진-오브제(photo-objects)의 형식을 취한다.
