Description

In an abandoned studio within the Sonnenhaus, an early research center for renewable energy, Leaving Light traces the lingering presence of light, time, and memory. Using successive multiple exposures filtered through different colors directly in the camera, Viktoria Schmid layers fleeting moments into a single shimmering image where past and present coexist. Drawing on the material qualities of 16mm film—the subtle irregularities of the camera mechanism, shifting image registration, and delicate movements of hand and machine—the film transforms an empty space into a spectral landscape. What remains is not simply a record of a place left behind, but a meditation on how cinema allows light to preserve the traces of time.

초기 재생에너지 연구시설인 ‘존넨하우스(Sonnenhaus)’의 버려진 작업실을 배경으로, <떠나는 빛>은 빛과 시간, 그리고 기억이 남긴 흔적을 따라간다. 빅토리아 슈미트는 카메라 내부에서 서로 다른 색 필터를 사용한 연속 다중노출 기법으로 찰나의 순간들을 하나의 흔들리는 이미지에 겹쳐 놓으며, 과거와 현재가 공존하는 시간을 만들어낸다. 16mm 필름의 물질적 특성과 카메라 장치의 미세한 흔들림, 손과 기계가 만들어내는 우연한 움직임은 비어 있는 공간을 유령 같은 풍경으로 변화시킨다. 이 영화는 떠나온 장소의 기록을 넘어, 영화가 어떻게 빛 속에 시간의 흔적을 간직하는지를 사유하는 작품이다.

Bio

Born in 1986 in Neuhofen/Ybbs, Austria; visual artist and filmmaker based in Vienna. She is working at the interface of the cinematic and the exhibition space. Schmid studied at the Friedl-Kubelka-School, received her BA in film theory from the University of Vienna and her MA from the University of Art in Linz. Her installations and films have been shown internationally.

1986년 오스트리아 노이호펜 안 데어 입스에서 태어났다. 현재 빈을 기반으로 활동하는 시각예술가이자 영화감독으로, 영화와 전시 공간의 경계를 가로지르는 작업을 선보이고 있다. 프리들 쿠벨카 스쿨에서 수학했으며, 빈 대학교에서 영화이론 학사 학위를, 린츠 예술대학교에서 석사 학위를 받았다. 그의 설치작업과 영화는 세계 여러 나라에서 전시 및 상영되었다.
