You’re Not Listening by Jeremy Rourke recounts a journey to filmmaker Craig Baldwin’s 16mm archive. While digging into the illuminated content, we can hear heartfelt musings on its serendipitous strength and repurposed relevancy. The ponderous stacks of cans and reels teeter as we breathe the underground aura of lyrical titles. Guitar in hand, as this song is spliced together, Jeremy sings.

<넌 듣고 있지 않아>에서 제러미 루크는 영화감독 크레이그 볼드윈의 16mm 필름 아카이브로 향한 여정을 회고한다. 빛에 비춰진 자료들을 탐색하는 동안, 우연히 축적된 힘과 새롭게 부여된 현재적 의미에 대한 진솔한 사색이 들려온다. 제목이 적힌 필름 캔과 릴들이 아슬아슬하게 쌓인 가운데, 우리는 그 서정적인 제목들이 풍기는 지하 공간의 분위기를 호흡한다. 기타를 손에 든 제러미는 이 노래가 필름처럼 이어 붙여지는 동안 노래를 부른다.

Bio

Jeremy Rourke is a stop motion animator, performer and educator based in San Francisco, CA. After stitching together his first animated second (12 frames) in 2009, this meticulous, handmade, beautiful, and uncanny medium became home. He creates multimedia performances where, guitar in hand, he sings his projected animations into being. His commissioned work with documentary filmmakers has screened at festivals including Sundance and Frameline, and has been nominated for an Academy Award. As an educator, he has shared his knowledge and enthusiasm for the art of animation at UC Davis, California College of the Arts, Saint Mary’s College of California, SF State, Shapeshifters Cinema, and CASA (children’s after school arts). He can’t thank Recology, Djerassi, I-Park, Basement Films, The Vermont Studio Center and Willapa Bay AIR enough for the time offered to create work during residencies. Also here is something in progress on his animation table.

제러미 루크는 캘리포니아주 샌프란시스코를 기반으로 활동하는 스톱모션 애니메이터이자 퍼포머, 교육자이다. 2009년 첫 번째 애니메이션 1초 분량(12프레임)을 이어 붙인 이후, 세심하게 손으로 만들어지는 아름답고도 기이한 이 매체는 그의 보금자리가 되었다. 그는 기타를 손에 들고 자신의 투사된 애니메이션을 노래로 구현하는 멀티미디어 퍼포먼스를 선보인다.

다큐멘터리 영화감독들과 협업한 그의 작품들은 선댄스와 프레임라인을 비롯한 여러 영화제에서 상영되었으며, 아카데미상 후보에 오르기도 했다. 교육자로서 그는 UC 데이비스, 캘리포니아 예술대학, 세인트메리 칼리지, 샌프란시스코 주립대학교, 셰이프시프터스 시네마, CASA(방과 후 어린이 예술 프로그램) 등에서 애니메이션 예술에 대한 지식과 열정을 나누어 왔다.

또한 그는 레콜로지(Recology), 제라시(Djerassi), 아이파크(I-Park), 베이스먼트 필름스(Basement Films), 버몬트 스튜디오 센터(Vermont Studio Center), 윌라파 베이 AIR(Willapa Bay AIR)에서 레지던시 기간 동안 창작에 몰두할 수 있도록 시간을 제공받은 것에 대해 깊은 감사를 표한다. 그리고 그의 애니메이션 작업대 위에는 지금도 진행 중인 무언가가 놓여 있다.
