Description

Filmed in New England, Upstate New York, New York City and the Southwest of the United States. Some experiences which I didn't film, but represent my mood while filming:

In a tiny Public Library in the middle of Nevada I found myself confronted by 2 teenage sisters dressed in Mennonite dresses - one was blond with beautiful freckles and her adopted sister had dark skin and looked very individual in her camouflage patterned Mennonite dress, and I thought, "New York is far away." - Then when I visited the Hopis, sitting on a small wall overlooking the wide empty, peaceful Hopi land, I thought, "America is far away." Earlier I had visited Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and felt almost at home, European, If not German.
"I am an American," answered the young doctor when I asked if he were from India, "everyone here is an American; that's the difference to all other countries".

"To Be Here" is the last part of a country-trilogy with INDIA (2005) filmed in Pune and JUNGE KIEFERN / YOUNG PINES (2011) filmed in Japan.

뉴잉글랜드, 뉴욕 업스테이트, 뉴욕시 및 미국 남서부에서 촬영되었다. 촬영하는 동안에는 영상에 담지 않은 몇 가지 경험이 있었는데, 그 순간들이 내 기분과 진심을 잘 대변해 주었다.

네바다 중심부에 위치한 작은 공공 도서관에서 나는 메노나이트 드레스를 입은 2명의 십대 자매와 마주했는데, 한 명은 아름다운 주근깨가 있는 금발이었고, 그녀의 입양된 자매는 짙은 피부색을 가지고 있었으며, 위장복 패턴의 메노나이트 드레스를 입고 개성적으로 보였다. 그리고 "뉴욕은 참 먼 곳에 있구나"라고 생각했다. - 그런후 호피족을 방문했을 때, 평화로운 호피 땅을 내려다보며 작은 절벽 위에 앉아 있을 때 "미국과는 아주 동 떨어져 있구나"하고 생각했다. 그 이전, 매사추세츠주의 마운트 홀리오크 대학을 방문하고는, 거의 집처럼 유럽적인 느낌을 받았었다. 아니면 독일 같다는 느낌도 받았었다.
"저는 미국인입니다." 인도 출신이냐고 물었더니 젊은 의사가 "여기 사람들은 모두 미국인이고, 그게 다른 모든 나라와 다른 점입니다."라고 대답했습니다.

"투 비 히어"는 퓨네에서 촬영된 INDIA (2005)와, 일본에서 촬영된 JUNGE KIEFERN / YOUNG PINES (2011)에 이은 국가 삼부작의 마지막 부분이다.

Bio

Ute Aurand has been a central figure of Berlin’s experimental film scene since the 1980s and is one the most significant filmmakers active in the diary and portrait tradition today. Born in 1957 in Frankfurt/Main, she studied filmmaking at the Deutsche Film und Fernsehakademie (dffb) From 1979-1985, and from 1980, she has produced her own films. In making her 16mm portraits, she often films her subjects over many years, thereby stressing the inseparability between living and filming for the avant-garde filmmaker. Aurand’s work celebrates the here and now, the people she meets, the places she visits, the very fact of being alive. Her films have been shown at international film festivals and art museums i.a.: Tate Modern, London, Austrian Film Museum; Berlinale (Forum Expanded); TIFF Toronto (Wavelengths); Media City Film Festival; International Film Festival Rotterdam; Harvard Film Archive; Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen; CCCB Barcelona etc.

Ute Aurand has also been active as a curator who consistently introduces films by female directors. From 1990 to 1995, She created the series “Filmarbeiterinnen-Abend” at the Arsenal cinema, Berlin, featuring mostly experimental films made by women. In 1997, she founded the monthly “Filmsamstag” programs with other women filmmakers and curated the program until 2007. She is a founder of the Bolex Workshop at the Berlin Film School (dffb) in 2015.

또한 우테 오란드는 여성 감독의 영화를 꾸준히 소개하는 기획자로서도 왕성한 활동을 이어왔다. 1990년부터 베를린의 아스널 시네마에서 여성 감독들이 제작한 실험영화를 선보인 <영화노동자의 저녁: Filmarbeiterinnen-Abend> (1990-1996)와 <예를 들어, 당신은: Sie zum Beispiel> (1995-96) 등을 기획했고, 1997년 동료 여성 감독들과 함께 월간 상영 프로그램 <영화 토요일: FilmSamstag>을 시작했으며 2007년까지 진행했다. 2015년 그녀는 베를린 필름 학교의 볼렉스 워크숍을 창설했다.
