Description

북한에 대한 증오. 그것은 분명 어제 오늘 일이 아니다. 이 나라는 증오가 없다면 금방이라도 쓰러질 것처럼 엄살을 부렸다. 한국에서 북한에 대한 증오는 누구도 감히 대적하지 못할 만큼 위협적이고 맹목적이었다. 그러나 증오의 대상에 덧씌운 얼굴이 실은 자화상에 가깝다는 것, 그리고 세계의 실제 모습을 보게 된다면 증오는 불가능하다는 점에서 한국의 증오는 사실 인식의 죽음이라고 불러야 한다.
덧붙이자면 이 영화의 영상은 과거 한국정부가 제작한 약 60편의 프로파간다 필름으로부터 가져온 것이고, 대부분의 사운드는 그와는 별도로 문교부가 제작한 시청각교재인 ‹반공사례 반공 어린이 이승복›에서 가져온 것이다. 그 시청각교재는 슬라이드 필름과 카세트 테입으로 구성되어 있는데 카세트 테입의 삐 소리에 맞춰 슬라이드 필름을 넘기게 되어 있다.

Hatred for North Korea. This is clearly nothing new. If there were no hatred for this country, then it would collapse into hardship in a moment. In South Korea, hatred of the North is baleful and unconditional and no one can dare stand against it. Thus, the face that covers up this object of hate is akin to a self-portrait, and the hatred of Korea—in regard to the impossibility of the true character of the world being shown—should be called the death of true awareness.
The images of this film are taken from propaganda films produced by the Korean government over the past 60 or so years, and most of the sounds in the film are taken from these films and the audio-visual teaching aid The Anti-communist Case of the Anti- communist Child Lee Seung-bok, which was produced separately by the Ministry of Education and Culture. This audio-visual aid consists of a slide film and a cassette tape, and the high-pitched sound of the cassette tape is synced over the film.

‹미국의 바람과 불›(2011), ‹시간의 소멸›(2013) 등을 만들었다. 주로 오래된 뉴스릴, 프로파간다 필름 등을 재료로 영화를 만드는 작업을 하고 있다.

Kyungman Kim's works include The Fire and Wind of America (2011) and The Extinction of Time (2013). His work mainly focuses on the use of old newsreels, propaganda films, and archival footage.
