알파벳, 읽기, 쓰기, 어휘 등의 익숙한 영어 학습 과정을 통해 전후 사회에서 역사적 정체성의 상실감에서 비롯된 불안을 다루는 ‹제3언어›는 언어로부터 완전한 독립을 이루는 영화의 순수한 구성과정, 즉, 촬영과 편집에 초점을 맞추어 허구와 사실 모두와 새로운 방식으로 관계 맺기를 제안한다.

Bio

손광주는 극, 실험, 다큐멘터리, 설치 등, 다양한 형식을 아우르며 영화와 미술의 경계를 넘나드는 작업을 한다. 직선적 시간관에 대한 의구심에서 출발하는 그의 작업은 우리가 관습적으로 알고 있는 개념적 스키마를 재구성하며 실체 없는 관념으로서의 미래가 아닌 오늘이라는 시간을 살아가는 작가 자신의 자화상을 탐구하기 위한 내러티브 실험에 집중한다. 2003년 ‹제3언어›를 시작으로, 로테르담국제영화제(2011, 2007, 2005), IDFA(2007), 오버하우젠국제단편영화제(2005), 부산국제영화제(2008, 2004, 2003), 전주국제영화제(2011, 2008, 2007) 등 국내외 주요 영화제를 비롯해, 아뜰리에 에르메스(2020), 국립현대미술관, SeMA벙커, JCC미술관, 토탈미술관(이상 2018), 아르코미술관(2016), Swatch Faces 2015 (2015), SMBA(2008) 등 미술 기관에서 꾸준히 전시와 상영을 이어가고 있다.

K.Son makes films for both the cinema and the gallery, embracing a wide range of modes of filmmaking such as fiction, experimental, documentary and installation. She works on film and video projects to unleam the stubbornly persistent illusion of linear time and progress, attempting to find a cleared ground on which new experiments of time can be accomplished. Since The Third Tongue(2003), she has presented her varied projects of film and video at diverse venues and international film festivals:
Atelier Hermès (2020), MMCA, JCC Art Center, SeMA Bunker(2018), Arko Art Center(2016), Swatch Faces 2015 (2015), IFFRotterdam(2011, 2007, 2005), IDFA(2007), International Short Film Festival Oberhausen(2005), IDFA(2007), BIFF(2008, 2004, 2003) and JIFF(2011, 2008, 2007).
