Description

This is the story of a Uitoto indigenous person who organized armed resistance to rubber exploitation at the beginning of the 20th century in Casa Arana. Yarokamena, invokes the spiritual and cosmic forces of war, releasing its destructive power from its container that ends up creating a spiral of betrayal and death. This remarkable tale was banned by traditional authorities for its potential to attract young people to revolt and function as a stimulus to resort to witchcraft. This story is told by Gerardo Sueche, councilor of the Uitoto peoples, going through filmic portraits of a delirious Amazon, invaded by technological ruins, dysfunctional antennas, ghost ships, and colonial ghosts housed in the oral memory of the survivors of this episode of exploitation and extractivism; using cinema as a new container for this destructive force.

이 영화는 20세기 초 카사 아라나(Casa Arana) 지역에서 고무 착취에 대항해 무장 저항을 조직한 우이토토(Uitoto) 원주민의 이야기다. <야로카메나(Yarokamena)>는 전쟁의 영적, 우주적 힘을 불러일으키고 그 파괴적인 힘을 담은 용기에서 방출하여 이윽고 배신과 죽음의 소용돌이를 만들어 낸다. 이 놀라운 이야기는 반란을 일으키고 주술에 의지하도록 젊은이들을 자극하는역할을할수있다는이유를들어보수적인당국에 의해 금지되었다. 이 이야기는 우이토토 부족 의원인 제라르도 수에체(Gerardo Sueche)가 영화적인 초상을 통해 폐기된 테크놀로지, 고장난 안테나, 유령선, 식민지 유령에 의해 침략당해 혼이 빠진 아마존을 이야기하며, 이 착취와 수탈의 에피소드에서 살아남은 사람들의 구전 기억 속에 담긴 그 파괴적인 힘을 영화라는 새로운 용기에 담아 전달한다.

Bio

Colombian artist and filmmaker, his work explores the intersections of experimental and expanded cinema, archives, counter-archives, contemporary art, propaganda, and politics. He is the co-director of La Vulcanizadora Experimental Film Laboratory and Expanded Theater. His film El Renacer del Carare received recognition at the 31st FIDMarseille and the Panorama de Cinema Colombiano. Their latest short film, Yarokamena, premiered at the 72nd Berlinale Forum Expanded and received an Honorable Mention at DocLisboa. He curated the Expanded Documentary section at MIDBO from 2017 to 2021 and was part of the Forensic Architecture Team in the Colombian research and exhibition "Traces of Disappearance."
