Description

다큐멘터리에 있어서 ‘보이스 오버 내레이션(Voice Over Narration)’이란 무엇인가. 영상과 언어는 어디에서 만나며, 영상 이미지에 말을 얹어 설명한다는 것은 어떤 의미를 갖는가.
방송제작자의 한 사람으로서 활동하기도 하는 감독은 자신이 생산해냈던 방송 다큐멘터리의 보이스 오버 내레이션들을 스스로 해체/분산/파편화시키면서 방송의 권위에 도전한다.
이른바 ‘신의 목소리(Voice of God)’라 불리며 프로파간다 (propaganda) 시절의 유산으로 남아있는 전지전능한 목소리. 감독은 그 절대권력자의 목소리조차 방송의 극적 재미를 위해 오락적 요소로 전락한 것임을 자조적으로 성찰하면서, ‘과잉된 말의 권력'이 갖는 소통불가능의 문제를 제기한다.

What is voice-over narration in a documentary film? Where do image and words meet, And what meaning does it have to place words on visual images?
Director, also working as TV documentary writer Challenges the authority of broadcasting through dismantling, dispersing, and disintegrating with her own hands, the voice-over narrations which she had once written.
Also referred to as “Voice of God”, the omnipotent voice that remains as the legacy of the propaganda era. Director reflects in a self-mocking way that even such absolute power’s voice has degraded into entertaining element for the dramatic fun of broadcasting, and also raises the issue of incommunicability of authority of ‘surplus words’.

Bio

임미랑은 방송다큐멘터리 작가 및 실험영화와 독립 다큐멘터리 제작자로 활동 중이다. 저널리즘의 지시성과 실험영화의 모호성 사이에서 새로운 영상미학을 모색 중이며, ‹가라사대›(2007), ‹서울극장›(2007), ‹여자, 다리를 벌리다›(2008) 등의 작업이 있다.

Lim MiRang is a broadcast documentary writer, experimental film and independent documentary producer. She is seeking a new visual aesthetic between the directives of journalism and the ambiguity of experimental films.
