Bio

심리학과 전자공학을 공부한 후, 대학원에서 영상이론 연구와 창작을 병행하며 석사과정(MFA, Film)을 마쳤다. 리서치와 아카이빙을 기반으로 이미지와 매체 자체에 대해 사유하는 작업을 주로 진행해 왔다. <순환하는 밤>(2016)으로 전주국제영화제 감독상과 서울독립영화제 심사위원상, <그들은 우리의 응시에 응답한다>(2021)로 댄스카메라웨스트(LA) 최우수다큐멘터리상을 수상했다. 무용, 연극, 건축 등 다양한 분야의 작가들과 협업을 수행하며 극장 상영, 전시 설치 등 다양한 경로를 통해 국내외 여러 장소에서 작품을 발표하고 있다.

PAIK Jongkwan studied Psychology and Electronics in college and received an MFA in Film from the Graduate School of Communication and Arts at Yonsei University. Paik works with experimental video production based on research and archiving. By repeatedly collecting images and sounds encountered in various aspects of daily life and recontextualizing these records and memories, he creates works that examine the structures that govern our lives while contemplating the nature of visual media.
