Description

움직인다는 느낌은 하나의 환영이다. 환영(과 환청) 없이 우리는 이미지와 소리의 움직임(-연속성)을 지각할 수 없다. 환영은 착각이자 오류인 동시에 올바른 정보로 전환되기 위한 불가피한 진화의 결과물이다. 열망의 총체로서 에드워드 마이브리지의 (영화-)장치는 '달리는 말'의 네 다리가 공중에 떠있음을 증명하였고 (사진-)이미지는 움직일 수 있게 되었으며, 환영의 시대가 시작 되었다. 이러한 환영의 시대의 거의 유일한 반대 명제는 (생물학적) 죽음이지만 오늘날의 타임라인에서 죽음은 환영의 이미지가 되어 도처에 널려 있다. 이에 모토코는 익명의 죽음이 기록된 참혹한 사건들의 사적 푸티지들을 모아 연속- 사진으로 분해 후 리얼타임 기반의 알고리듬을 만든다. 이를 기반으로 하상철은 '영화'를 (재)정의하고자 했던 지가 베르토프와 브루스 코너의 지혜를 담보로 삼아 실시간으로 추동하는 소리와 이미지들을 논-리얼타임의 고정된 형식으로 다시 전환/정박하여 모델화한다. ‹영화›는 소리와 이미지, 그리고 환영의 장치를 탐구하며 영화로 호명되기 위한 조건을 오늘날의 타임라인에서 다시금 환기하기를 시도한다.

The sensation of motion is an illusion. Without illusions (and auditory illusions), we cannot perceive the continuity of images and sounds. Illusions are inevitable products of evolution, serving as both misconceptions and errors that transform into accurate information. As a culmination of desire, Eadweard Muybridge's (cinematic-) apparatus demonstrated that the four legs of a running horse are suspended in the air, enabling (photographic-) still images to become animated, marking the beginning of the era of illusions. The almost sole counter-proposition in the age of such illusions is (biological) death. However, in today's timeline, death has become an image of illusions scattered everywhere. In response, "motoko" collects private footage of anonymous deaths from harrowing events and disassembles them into chronophotography, then creates realtime-based algorithms. Based on this, "HASC" appropriates the wisdom of Dziga Vertov and Bruce Conner, who sought to (re-)define "cinema," and models the functioning of realtime sounds and images by (re-) convert/anchor it into a fixed format of non-realtime. The work A MOVIE explores the apparatus of sounds, images, and illusions, attempting to revive the conditions necessary to be designated as a cinema in today's timeline.

Bio

모토코와 하상철은 신체를 공유하며 독립된 역할을 수행한다. 필요할 경우 둘은 정신을 동기화하여 끊임없이 의견을 교환한다. 모토코는 리얼타임 기반의 작업들을 만들어내며 하상철은 이를 정박하기 위한 장치를 고안해내고자 분투한다.

"motoko" and "HASC" share a body while performing independent roles. When necessary, they synchronize their minds and exchange opinions incessantly. "motoko" creates works based on realtime, while "HASC" struggles to devise apparatus to anchor them.
