Description

1995년 한 천문학자가 엉뚱한 프로젝트를 제시했다. 아무것도 없다고 생각하던 우주의 작은 한 부분을 허블 망원경을 이용해 촬영해보자는 것이었다. 정묘년(1447년) 안평대군은 구름과 안개가 자욱이 서려있는 복숭아 나무 숲을 거니는 꿈을 꾸고 화가 안견에게 그것을 그림으로 그리도록 했다. 두 일화를 바탕으로 한 이 영화는 나사(NASA) 영상 이미지 라이브러리의 사진들을 인쇄, 변형, 왜곡하여 ‘멀고 가까운 곳’이 이미지가 되는 과정을 탐구한다.

In 1995, an astronomer proposed a peculiar project. It was to use the Hubble Telescope to capture a small part of the universe that was then known to be a void. In 1447 in Chosun Dynasty, Prince Anpyeong had a dream of walking through a peach blossom forest shrouded in clouds and mist, and he asked the painter, Ahn Gyeon, to capture it in a painting. Through the juxtaposition of the two historical anecdotes, the film examines the images of ‘the far and near’ through printing, transforming, and distorting the photos from the NASA Image and Video Library.

김진수는 애니메이션 기법과 형식을 통해 이미지가 물리적이고 개념적으로 소진 및 재구성되고, 그것이 반복되는 과정을 실험한다. 또한 이미지에 담긴 개인 또는 집단의 기억, 문화적 믿음, 미신, 그리고 신화를 드러내는 시도를 한다. 캘리포니아 인스티튜트 오브 더 아츠(CalArts) 실험애니메이션 석사과정을 졸업했으며 뉴욕영화제, 서울국제실험영화제, 전주국제영화제, 안시국제애니메이션영화제에서 상영하였다.

Justin Jinsoo Kim is an experimental filmmaker exploring animation technique and form to examine personal and collective memories, cultural myths, superstitions, and repetitions. He received MFA in Experimental Animation at the California Institute of the Arts. Kim’s work has been screened internationally, including at New York Film Festival Currents, EXiS (Experimental Film&Video Festival in Seoul), Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and JEONJU international film festival.
