Description

A tone-poem in blue and red by US artist and experimental filmmaker Ben Russell, Against Time is a visually staggering kind of cine diary, shot on various locations between 2019 and 2022. Trying to find a way through the fog of recent years, the piece plays with dissolving images, non-linear montage, modular synthesis, and intense strobing techniques to reflect on how we experience time as a fragmented phenomenon. It results in a hypnotic and beautiful experimental cinema that seems to mirror life in all of its interpersonal intricacies. - REWIRE Festival 2023

‹시간을 거슬러›는 미국의 예술가이자 실험적인 영화감독 벤 러셀(Ben Russell)이 제작한 파랑색과 빨강색의 톤-포엠(tone- poem)으로 이 작품은 2019년부터 2022년까지 다양한 장소에서 촬영된, 시각적으로 인상적인 시네 다이어리 형식의 작품이다. 최근 몇 년간의 안개 속에서 길을 찾으려는 시도를 통해 이 작품은 이미지의 해체, 비선형 몽타주, 모듈식 합성 그리고 우리가 어떻게 시간을 단편적인 현상으로 경험하는지를 반영하기 위해 강렬한 스트로빙 기술을 사용한다. 이는 최면에 걸리듯 아름다운 실험 영화를 만들어 주며, 인간 관계의 복잡성이 담긴 삶을 그린 것처럼 보인다. – 리와이어 페스티벌 2023

Bio

Ben Russell (1976) is an American artist, filmmaker and curator whose work lies at the intersection of ethnography and psychedelia. Russell was an exhibiting artist at documenta 14 (2017) and his work has been presented at the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate Modern, the Museum of Modern Art Chicago, the Venice Film Festival and the Berlinale, among others. He is currently based in Marseille, France.

벤 러셀(Ben Russell 1976)은 미국의 예술가, 영화감독 및 큐레이터로, 그의 작업은 인류학과 사이키델릭 예술의 교차점에 위치한다. Russell은 도큐멘타 14(documenta 14, 2017)에서 전시 예술가로 참여하였으며, 그의 작품은 Centre Georges Pompidou, 현대미술관, Tate Modern, Museum of Modern Art Chicago, 베니스 영화제, 베를린 영화제 등에서 발표되었다. 그는 현재 프랑스 마르세유에 거주하고 있다.
