Malembe는 리듬감 있는 몽타주와 관찰력과 초현실적 심상의 혼합을 통해 미국과 베네수엘라 사이의 비스듬한 연결고리를 형성하며 뿌리째 뽑혀나가는 묘한 해리, 장소 간 생활상을 전달한다. 칼이 하늘을 가르고, 눈을 가르고, 과일을 통해, 음악, 음식, 의식의 전통적인 표시와 함께 뉴잉글랜드 겨울의 홈 무비 오토 초상화와 결합하면서, 아찔할 정도로 메스꺼움과 황당한 느낌을 동시에 전달하고 있다.

Through its rhythmic montage and mix of observational and surreal imagery, Malembe forges oblique linkages between the United States and Venezuela, conveying the strange dissociation of being uprooted, of living between places. As a knife cuts through sky, through snow, and through fruit, quasi-ethnographic footage—with its conventional markers of music, food, ritual—joins with home-movie auto-portraiture of a New England winter, communicating a sense of dislocation at once vertiginously queasy and absurd
