이 작업은 마르셀 뒤샹의 작업을 참조하고 있으며, 뒤샹의 <대형 유리> 작업에 대한 만 레이의 표현을 참고한다.

뒤샹의 <대형 유리> 작업은 매우 오랜기간 먼지를 얹기위해 내버려두어졌다. 그걸 보고 만 레이는 마르셀 뒤샹에게 말했다.

 "이것은 마치 먼지의 번식 같군요"

 두 작가 모두 초현실주의 이 후의 다다이즘과 그 역사와의 관련이 깊다.

 롤프의 얼굴에 곧 바로 떨어지는 많은 양의 흰 먼지는 번식하고 살아 움직인다. 이것은 먼지 그 스스로의 힘과 힘의 장으로써 인간의 얼굴과 가능성보다 우위를 차지한다.

 이 작업은 제목 그대로 <먼지의 번식>에 관한 것이기도 하지만, 상실과 부재, 그리고 죽음에 대한 은유이기도 하다. (우리 역시 먼지이면서 반드시 먼지로 돌아가야하는 존재이다.)

This work makes reference to MARCEL DUCHAMP and uses MAN RAYS descriptor to DUCHAMP for the Large Glass.

The Glass been started but left aside for a long period gathering dust.

When he saw it MAN RAY said to MARCEL DUCHAMP “ITS LIKE DUST BREEDING”

Both artists were associated with Dada and its history beyond Surrealism

Directly into ROLFE’S face a significant quantity of white dust breeds and becomes animate.

With its own power and force field this becomes predominate over the human face and possibility.

This is literal but also metaphorical for loss and absence and mortality.

(We too are dust and to dust we must return)
