루이스 클라의 콜라주 영화는 언제나 현대적 삶의 버려진 것들(광고 이미지, 교과서, 만화책, 게임이나 메뉴, 카드 게임과 같은 사물들)을 한데 엮어 기억이 잘 나지 않는 할리우드 영화 처럼 보이는 시나리오화해 기억의 과정을 모방해왔다. <데이라이트 문>에서 시각적 매혹의 패턴에서 만들어낸 세계를 상상한 어린 아이의 순간을 그려내려고 노력한다. 아이들이 보는 방식은 깊은 공간보다 사물에 대한 느낌과 촉감에 의지한다. 루이스 클라의 가장 추상적인 영화인 이 작품은 드물게 인간의 형상을 그린다. 인물의 캐릭터 대신, 클라는 우리에게 범죄의 발견과 욕망으로의 초대를 약속하는 텅빈 장소와 수수께끼 같은 공간을 보여준다. Lewis Klahr’s collage films have always mimed the processes of memory by pulling together the discards of contemporary life (images from ads, text books, or comic books, objects such as game pieces, menus, playing cards) into scenarios that seem like some Hollywood film dimly remembered. In Daylight Moon, he reaches even further back, to try to recall the moments in which a small child configures the world out of patterns of visual fascination, a mode of seeing that relies on touch and the feel of things rather than deep space. One of his most abstract films, Daylight Moon rarely reveals a human figure. Instead of characters, Klahr gives us the play of enigmatic spaces and empty sites that promise both the invitation of desire and the discovery of crime. (Tom Gunning)
