오늘날 인류는 지각변동이나 소행성충돌, 혹은 화산폭발과 비슷하게 지표면을 변화시킬 수 있는 능력이 있는 지질학적 행위자가 되었다. 이 변화는 너무나 근본적인 것이어서 아마도 우리가 존재했다는 사실은 우리가 사라지고 난 다음에도 별도의 지층으로 남아서 확인할 수 있게 될 것이다. 이 작품은 디스토피아적인 서사로 구성되어 있는데 주로 중국의 여러 도시들에서 지난 40년간 일어난 환경 및 경제 현상에 대한 여러 증언들을 토대로 하여 의미와 재현의 비가시적 층위를 만들어낸다. 이를 통해 작가는 무엇인가 급박한 일이 일어난다는 생각을 자극하고자 한다.
Today, humanity became a geological agent with the ability to generate an impact on the planet similar to that of tectonic movements, the collision of asteroids and the eruption of volcanoes; the impact is so profound that probably our existence will be recognized as a layer of different stratification, sometime after our extinction. Fossil Place builds a set on a dystopian narrative, based on different testimonies about environmental and economic phenomena of the last 40 years in different cities of China, creating an invisible layer of meaning and representation; inducing a stimulus to think that something urgent is happening.

플로렌시아 레비는 부에노스 아이레스에서 활동하는 시각예술가다. 그녀는 역사, 친밀성, 건축, 공공 공간과 관계를 맺는 다양한 형태의 주체성에 관해서 장기간의 연구를 하는 방식으로 작업을 한다. 그녀의 작품은 종종 인류학 현장조사와 인터뷰를 바탕으로 하는데, 특히 갈등과 감응을 탐구하면서 발견하게 되는 장소와 대상들의 정치적 공명에 집중한다. 그녀의 작품은 장소특정적 설치, 영화, 사진에서부터 협업 프로젝트나 회화, 출판 등에 이르는 다양한 매체를 통해 만들어진다. 이를 통해 그녀는 역사와 기억의 관계되는 특정한 상황을 보여준다. 그녀는 세계 각지에서 아티스트 레지던시 프로그램에 참가했으며, 또한 여러 상과 기금 수상자이기도 하다. 또한 그녀의 작품들은 세계 곳곳의 미술관에서 전시되기도 했다.
Florencia Levy is a visual artist based in Buenos Aires. Her practice is driven by long-term research that explores different forms of subjectivities in relation to history, intimacy, architecture and public space. Her work is often supported by anthropological fieldwork and interviews, focusing on the political resonance of places and objects while exploring conflict and affect. Her work crosses mediums ranging from site-specific installations, film, and photography, to collaborative projects, painting, and publications that engage in specific situations in relation to history and memory.
