‘가치없는 웃음’에서 카룽은 조각난 이미지, 색이 칠해진 포장지, 연속되는 이중 노출, 사운드의 몽타주, 잠언을 활용해 복잡한 관념의 세계를 구축했다. 영화이자 음향 시(詩)인 ‘가치없는 웃음’의 철학적 여정은 선(禪) 그리고 동방의 명상으로부터 출발해 신비로운 가르침을 추적한다.
In The Worthless Smile, Karlung constructs a complex world of ideas out of images of chiseled and painted foil, double-exposed sequences and a montage of sounds and wise sayings. The film and sound poem The Worthless Smile traces roots to Oriental apocryphal teachings. Zen and Eastern meditation form the departure point of this philosophical quest for ‘the worthless smile’.
