바 카운터에 있는 의자에 사람들이 오가며 움직이는 모습에 영감을 얻어 작품을 만들었습니다. 유명, 무명의 사람들을 각기 의자에 15분동안 앉혀놓고 그들 모르게 촬영하는 방식으로 제작했다. (쿠리 요지)
쿠리는 카메라를 세팅해 두고 다양한 군상의 사람들에게 15분간 의자위에 앉아 있어달라고 부탁했다. 스톱모션 방식으로 촬영한 이 작품은 사람들이 자신이 기록되고 있는지는 모르게했다. 작품의 도입부 자막에는 쿠리는 관객들에게 현대인이 정말 아무 것도 할 수 있는 것이 없을 때 드러나는 불안감에 대해 이 영화는 다루고 있다고 말한다. 학교 선생님, 어린 여학생, 대학생, 샐러리맨, 스님, 경찰 과 같은 일반인 뿐만 아니라 화가이자 조각가인 아카모토 다로, 가수이자 배우인 아이 조지(이시마츠 조지), 시인인 다니카와 슌타로, 작곡가이자 연주자인 이치야나기 도시와 같은 당대의 유명예술가들이 등장한다. 
Inspired by the movement of people in the chairs at the bar counter, I created the piece. Famous and unknown people were made to sit in each chair for 15 minutes and shoot without their knowledge. (Yōji Kuri)
The premise of Chair is this: Kuri asked a number of people from a wide variety of walks of life to sit on a chair for 15 minutes in front of his single camera set-up. In the opening title card he asks the spectator to imagine what they would do with the time and says that the film is about the unease that modern people feel when they don’t have anything to do. The regular people (a school teacher, a young girl, a university student, a salaryman, a Buddhist priest, a cop, among many others) were paid a fee for their time, while the celebrity figures such as artist Taro Okamoto (岡本太郎), singer George Ai (アイ・ジョジ), the poet Shuntaro Tanikawa (谷川俊太郎), and the composer Toshi Ishiyangi (一柳慧) did not receive any payment.
