1962년 1월 29일, ‘애니메이션 3인의 회’의 2회 정기 상영회에서 발표된 <인간 동물원>은 요지 쿠리가 현대 음악가 다케미츠 토루Takemitsu Toru의 ‘클랩 보컬리즘 Clap Vocalism’을 듣고 애니메이션으로 제작한 작품이다. 이 작품은 두 개의 제목을 가지고 있는데 ‘인간동물원'과 ‘클랩 보컬리즘'은 다케미츠가 남성과 여성의 목소리를 동물적인 방식으로 표현한 곡의 실험적 성격과 쿠리가 애니메이션으로 인간에 대한 풍자를 그려낸 두 가지 측면을 드러낸다. 작곡가와 애니메이터가 긴밀한 협업을 통해 이 작품은 완성되었다.철창안에 있는 인간의 모습을 광기어리면서도 풍자적으로 그려낸 이 작품은 첫 발표된 이듬해 1963년 베니스영화제 산마르코 사자상을 안시 국제애니메이션영화제에서는  심사위원 특별상을 수상했다.
Human Zoo was introduced at the Animation Group of Three’s second screening on January 19, 1962. The film actually has two titles – one in English, the other in Japanese – which point to two important thematic concerns. The English title “Clap Vocalism” refers to the experimental style of composition used by Takemitsu in the piece. Instead of using classical composition or song, Takemitsu has composed a piece that uses the male and female voices in an animalistic manner - sometimes staccato, sometimes sustained as if moaning. The male figures bark like dogs or moan when abused by the female figures. The images are in complete harmony with the soundtrack in a way that suggests a close collaboration between the composer and the animator. The film won the Special Jury Prize at Annecy in 1963 and the Bronze Award for animation at the 1963 Biennale in Venice.
