Description

<192프레임의 죽음>은 영화가 시작되기 전, 카운트다운 리더의 8에서 2까지 이어지는 총 192프레임의 구간을 시간적·개념적 축으로 삼아 ‘시작 이전의 시간’을 탐구한다. 시간이 새겨진 조각으로서의 필름을 줍고, 모으고, 서로이어붙이며  마모되면서도 계속 흘러가는 시간에 대해 말한다.

As the time preceding a beginning, the countdown leader's descending numbers evoke both anxiety and anticipation. As a temporal medium, 16mm film is material, tactile, and intrinsically bound to time. By collecting, retrieving, salvaging, washing, and splicing together strips of film—fragments inscribed with time—I confront the anxiety and restlessness brought on by the awareness that the time available to me is slipping away and that I am moving ever closer to a certain "end."

Bio

김민정은 상영관과 전시 공간을 오가며 영상 매체의 물질성과 광학적 특성에 연관된 사회문화적 맥락의 구조를 탐색해왔다. 피사계 심도, 필름 스트립의 길이, 필터, 셔터, 거울 등 구조 영화의 형식적 속성들이 ‘기준', '표준'이라는 약속된 허구를 가리키며 누락시키는 바깥을 살펴왔다. ‘신체’, ‘풍경’, ‘불’ 등을 경유하여 영화와 영상 매체를 지시하는 다른 말들을 하나씩 찾아가고 있다.

Minjung KIM is a filmmaker and an artist. She studied Visual Communication Design at Hongik University, Seoul, and earned her MFA degree in Film and Video from the California Institute of the Arts.  Her films have screened at international film festivals and media venues including Berlinale, Viennale, Sheffield Docs, TIFF, Edinburgh Film Festival, Seoul Independent film festival, DMZ Docs, Doosan Gallery Seoul, Insa Art Space, Gallery SONGEUN. She is the recipient of Public Art New Hero Grant Prize, Korean Exis Award, Best Korean Propose at Nemaf and Tom Berman Award for Most Promising Filmmaker at Ann Arbor Film Festival and recently she resides in Seoul, South Korea.
