〈설화〉(2025)는 도시 개발로 인간의 역사가 사라진 원초적 공백 위에, 잔가시처럼 남은 전신주 변압기 사이의 한 뼘 남짓한 틈을 응시한다. 고압 전류가 흐르는 위태로운 틈새를 사이에 두고, 둥지를 짓는 까치와 이를 제거하려는 인간, 그리고 복수와 상실을 예언하듯 울부짖으며 맴도는 까마귀의 움직임이 교차한다. 작품은 장소의 역사 위에 오래된 민담 ‘은혜 갚은 까치’의 서사를 겹쳐 놓으며, 역사와 신화의 시간 그 어디에도 온전히 자리 잡지 못한 채, 언제든 허물어질 수 있는 경계 지대에 남은 존재들의 잔상을 담아낸다.

Tale (2025) gazes into a narrow crevice, scarcely a hand’s breadth wide, between utility pole transformers that remain like barbs upon a primordial void where human histories have been erased by urban development. Across this precarious gap charged with high-voltage current, the movements of a magpie building its nest, a human attempting to remove it, and a crow circling and crying out as if foretelling revenge and loss intersect. Layering the narrative of the old folktale “The Grateful Magpie” over the history of the site, the work captures the lingering traces of beings that remain in a liminal zone, unable to fully belong to either historical or mythical time, and always on the verge of collapse.

Bio
정재경은 옳고 그름을 명확하게 판단하기 어려운 딜레마적 상황을 관찰하며 윤리의 개념을 탐구한다. 주로 인간이 축적한 역사적 시간이 소멸하는 장소에 머물며, 근대적 이성이 구축한 매끈한 표층 이면에 소거된 존재들에 주목해 왔다.

제18회 베니스 비엔날레 국제건축전 한국관, 국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관, 대만 타이중 시립미술관 등 국내외 주요 미술 기관의 전시에 참여했다. 주요 작품은 국립현대미술관과 서울시립미술관 등에 소장되어 있으며, 현재 창작 활동과 함께 시간예술 연구 및 전시 공간인 쉬(shhh)를 설립하여 운영하고 있다.

Jaekyung Jung investigates the concept of ethics by observing dilemma situations where right and wrong cannot be clearly defined. He mostly stays in places where the historical time accumulated by humans is dissipating, focusing on the existences that have been erased behind the smooth surface constructed by modern rationality.

He has participated in exhibitions at major art institutions both domestically and internationally, including the Korean Pavilion at the 18th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), the Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA), and the Taichung Art Museum in Taiwan. His works are part of the permanent collections of the MMCA and SeMA, among others. Alongside his art practice, he founded and currently curates shhh, a research and exhibition space dedicated to time-based art practices.
