소피 카불라코스(Sophie Cavoulacos)는 뉴욕현대미술관MOMA의 어시스턴트 큐레이터이다. 그녀는 2017년 10월 말에 개최된 전시 <클럽 57: 필름, 퍼포먼스 그리고 이스트 빌리지의 아트, 1978-1983>를 큐레이터인 로날드 S. 매그리오지(Ronald S. Magliozzi)와 공동으로 기획했다. 클럽 57은 뉴욕이라는 도시의 포스트펑크 씬을 탐색하기 위해 이스트 빌리지의 예술가들의 클럽을 다룬 전시였다. 당시 예술가들은 낮은 임대료 덕분에 한데 모여 예산 없이, 협업과 다학제적인 성격을 갖고 있었다. AIDS 위기와 디지털 혁명이 도래하기 직전인 레이건 재임기간 중에 출연한 예술가들은 새로운 형태의 예술, 퍼포먼스, 패션, 음악 그리고 전시를 실험했다.
Sophie Cavoulacos is Assistant Curator in The Museum of Modern Art, New York’s Department of Film, which she joined in 2012. In 2017, she organized Club 57: Film, Performance, and Art in the East Village, 1978–1983 with Curator Ron Magliozzi (October 31, 2017–April 8, 2018). The exhibition considered the East Village artist’s club to explore the city’s post-punk scene: a no-budget, collaborative and interdisciplinary setting fueled by low rents and the Reagan presidency that catalyzed a generation of artists to experiment with new modes of art, performance, fashion, music, and exhibition in a period on the brink of the AIDS crisis and the digital revolution alike.
