"A woman asleep. Around her: paintings, antiques, dark shadows. The house and the stage entwine."

Carrying a slow-moving rhythm like the kinetic sculpture appearing on screen, a miniature mountain drifting through the night, the film composes an intangible movement of fragments of life and art. This work was made for the 20th anniversary of Nhà Sàn, in a period when Nhà Sàn Collective were returning to their home. An atmosphere, a sense of space, aesthetics, and the distinctive portrait of an intergenerational art community in Hanoi. A tribute to the home of a couple, Mrs. Lương and Mr. Mạnh Đức, Nhà Sàn's birthplace.

Nhà Sàn Collective (NSC) began operating as an independent artist collective in Hanoi in 2013. The name Nhà Sàn signifies the collective's foundation which is rooted in the spirit of Nhà Sàn Studio, an artist-run space founded in 1998 in Hanoi. 

The film was made in 2018. Nhà Sàn, the house on stilts, was taken apart in 2020.

화면에 등장하는 키네틱 조각처럼, 밤 속을 떠다니는 작은 산처럼, 느리고 고요한 리듬을 품은 이 영화는 삶과 예술의 파편들이 만들어내는 무형의 움직임을 그려낸다. 이 작품은 냐산 콜렉티브가 그들의 집으로 돌아오던 시기, 냐산(Nhà Sàn) 20주년을 기념하여 제작되었다. 하노이의 세대를 아우르는 예술 공동체의 분위기, 공간감, 미학, 그리고 그 고유한 초상. 냐산의 탄생지이자 루엉 여사와 만 득 선생 부부의 보금자리에 바치는 헌사.

냐산 콜렉티브(NSC)는 2013년 하노이에서 독립 예술가 집단으로 활동을 시작했다. '냐산'이라는 이름은 1998년 하노이에서 예술가들이 직접 운영하던 공간인 냐산 스튜디오의 정신을 뿌리로 삼고 있음을 뜻한다.

이 영화는 2018년에 제작되었다. 고상 가옥(stilt house)인 냐산은 2020년에 철거되었다.

Bio

Đỗ Văn Hoàng (b. 1987) is a filmmaker and writer who lives and works in Hanoi. Hoang navigates his creative journey amid the reverberation of social displacements, traversing the borders of film, poetry, theatrical and the visual art. Hoàng’s practice is concerned with the disoriented fragments of contemporary daily life, distilled into surrealist imagery.

He graduated from Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema, majoring in Screenwriting in 2011. He has been working as a writer and director since then and created a number of works, including short fiction/ documentaries, video art, TV series and music videos. His works were screened on numerous occasions such as Hanoi DocFest, Yamagata Film Festival, Centre Pompidou, Guangdong Times Museum, and Documenta15.

도 반 호앙(Đỗ Văn Hoàng, 1987년생)은 하노이를 기반으로 활동하는 영화감독이자 작가이다. 그는 사회적 변위의 울림 속에서 영화, 시, 연극, 시각예술의 경계를 넘나들며 자신의 창작 여정을 이어가고 있다. 호앙의 작업은 현대 일상의 파편화된 혼란을 초현실주의적 이미지로 증류해내는 데 초점을 맞춘다.

그는 2011년 하노이 연극영화대학교 시나리오 전공을 졸업한 후 작가 겸 감독으로 활동해왔으며, 단편 극영화 및 다큐멘터리, 비디오 아트, TV 시리즈, 뮤직비디오 등 다수의 작품을 제작했다. 그의 작품은 하노이 독필름페스트, 야마가타 국제다큐멘터리영화제, 퐁피두센터, 광둥 타임즈 뮤지엄, 도큐멘타15 등 여러 국제적인 자리에서 상영되었다.
