Description

A nude colored figure of a woman traverses across a black screen, becoming farther and farther away before she encounters a large, shiny ceramic object decorated with ducks and flowers. The video conflates game aesthetics, playing with personal childhood toys, mass-produced decorative objects, focal points, and the fairytale metamorphosis of women. The scene is accompanied by reprocessed Beethoven's Für Elise. Its repetitive sounds, flooding the surrounding space, become carriers of memory and a sense of home.

살구색 여성 인물이 검은 화면을 가로질러 점점 멀어지다가, 오리와 꽃으로 장식된 크고 윤기 나는 도자기 오브제와 마주친다. 이 영상은 게임 미학, 개인적인 어린 시절의 장난감, 대량 생산된 장식 오브제, 초점, 그리고 여성의 동화적 변신을 뒤섞으며 유희한다. 장면은 재가공된 베토벤의 <엘리제를 위하여>와 함께한다. 주변 공간을 가득 채우는 그 반복적인 소리는 기억과 집에 대한 감각의 매개체가 된다.

Bio

Quỳnh Đồng was born in Hải Phòng, Vietnam, currently based in Bern, Switzerland. Her practice, which also includes performance and sculpture, often features hyper-real video works which deliberately put together Asian paintings, performances of her own body, and pop music on the same screen. Her work has been exhibited internationally, notably at the Kunsthalle Bern, Galerie Perrotin, Paris, Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam, Galerie Bernhard Bischoff & Partner, Bern. In 2016, she presented Quỳnh By Night, her first solo exhibition in Hanoi at Nhà Sàn Collective.

뀐 동(Quỳnh Đồng)은 베트남 하이퐁 출신으로 현재 스위스 베른을 기반으로 활동하고 있다. 퍼포먼스와 조각을 아우르는 그의 작업은 아시아 회화, 자신의 신체를 활용한 퍼포먼스, 팝 음악을 한 화면에 의도적으로 병치하는 하이퍼리얼 비디오 작품을 주로 선보인다. 그의 작품은 쿤스트할레 베른, 파리 페로탱 갤러리, 암스테르담 레이크사카데미, 베른 베른하르트 비쇼프 & 파트너 갤러리 등 국제 무대에서 전시되었다. 2016년에는 냐산 콜렉티브에서 하노이 첫 개인전 <뀐 바이 나이트(Quỳnh By Night)>를 선보였다.
