Description

Dragonman and The Dream of the Hand are two of six videos in the six-channel video work No-snow Land. As the titles refer to nonexistent things, the works invite us to delight in the beauty while also contemplating the materiality of the video image.

“No-snow Land consists of six sceneries, six moments, simultaneously happening in no-snow land as this text is being read and the videos are being watched.

Call it no-snow, for my homeland has never known snow. Call it no-snow, for my eyes have never seen snow, my ears have never heard the sound of snow, my nose has never inhaled snow, my tongue has never tasted snow, and my skin has never felt snow.

Call it no-snow for snow is created from conditions other than snow; call it no-snow for snow will eventually transform into states that are no longer snow. Snow is not snow, snow is no-snow, thus snow is truly snow.”

<드래곤맨>과 <손의 꿈>은 6채널 비디오 작품 <눈 없는 땅(No-snow Land)>을 구성하는 여섯 편의 영상 중 두 작품이다. 제목들이 존재하지 않는 것들을 가리키듯, 이 작품들은 우리를 아름다움의 향유로 이끄는 동시에 비디오 이미지의 물질성에 대한 사유로 초대한다.

"<눈 없는 땅>은 여섯 개의 풍경, 여섯 개의 순간으로 이루어진다. 이 글이 읽히고 영상이 상영되는 바로 지금 이 순간, 눈 없는 땅에서 동시에 펼쳐지고 있는. 내 고향은 눈을 알지 못하기에, 눈 없다 부르자. 내 눈은 눈을 본 적 없고, 내 귀는 눈의 소리를 들은 적 없고, 내 코는 눈을 들이쉰 적 없고, 내 혀는 눈을 맛본 적 없고, 내 피부는 눈을 느껴본 적 없기에, 눈 없다 부르자. 눈이 아닌 조건들로부터 눈이 만들어지기에 눈 없다 부르자. 눈은 결국 더 이상 눈이 아닌 상태로 변해가기에 눈 없다 부르자. 눈은 눈이 아니고, 눈은 눈 없음이다. 그러므로 눈은 진정으로 눈이다."

Bio

Lê Xuân Tiến (b. 1995) is a visual artist working with moving images, currently living and working in Hanoi. He graduated in Television Cinematography from Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema in 2017. In his practice, he often uses collage, combining materials from various sources to form scenes and audio-visual compositions. His works are often fictional narratives that evoke spiritual and contemplative qualities.

레 쑤언 띠엔(Lê Xuân Tiến, 1995년생)은 무빙 이미지를 매체로 작업하는 시각예술가로, 현재 하노이에서 거주하며 활동하고 있다. 2017년 하노이 연극영화대학교 TV 촬영 전공을 졸업했다. 그의 작업에서는 콜라주 기법을 즐겨 사용하며, 다양한 출처의 재료들을 결합하여 장면과 시청각적 구성을 만들어낸다. 그의 작품은 영적이고 사색적인 성질을 불러일으키는 허구적 서사인 경우가 많다.
