Description

A film about my friend Maria Lang. The light falls on a few details, chance selections, out of which a place is composed, the place where Maria lives with her mother. A landscape, a village, a kitchen, her room.

Bio

Ute Aurand has been a central figure of Berlin’s experimental film scene since the 1980s and is one the most significant filmmakers active in the diary and portrait tradition today. Born in 1957 in Frankfurt/Main, she studied filmmaking at the Deutsche Film und Fernsehakademie (dffb) From 1979-1985, and from 1980, she has produced her own films. In making her 16mm portraits, she often films her subjects over many years, thereby stressing the inseparability between living and filming for the avant-garde filmmaker. Aurand’s work celebrates the here and now, the people she meets, the places she visits, the very fact of being alive. Her films have been shown at international film festivals and art museums i.a.: Tate Modern, London, Austrian Film Museum; Berlinale (Forum Expanded); TIFF Toronto (Wavelengths); Media City Film Festival; International Film Festival Rotterdam; Harvard Film Archive; Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen; CCCB Barcelona etc.

Ute Aurand has also been active as a curator who consistently introduces films by female directors. From 1990 to 1995, She created the series “Filmarbeiterinnen-Abend” at the Arsenal cinema, Berlin, featuring mostly experimental films made by women. In 1997, she founded the monthly “Filmsamstag” programs with other women filmmakers and curated the program until 2007. She is a founder of the Bolex Workshop at the Berlin Film School (dffb) in 2015.

우테 오란드(Ute Aurand)는 독일, 특히 베를린 대안 영화 문화 및 실험영화 분야에 있어서 핵심 인물로 지금까지 왕성하게 활동하고 있는 감독이다. 1957년 프랑크푸르트 마인에서 태어나 베를린에서 자란 그녀는 1979년부터 1985년까지 독일 영화-텔레비전 아카데미 베를린에서 영화를 공부했으며, 1980년부터 자신의 영화를 만들기 시작했다. 그녀의 작품은 요나스 메카스, 마리 멘켄 등과 같은 다이어리 영화 제작의 전통을 따르고 있으며, 동시대 16mm 영화 제작의 미학적 의미를 지속적으로 갱신하고 있다. 16mm 필름으로 인물에 대한 작품을 만들 때, 그녀는 수년에 걸쳐 종종 피사체를 촬영함으로써 아방가르드 영화 제작자에게 삶과 촬영의 불가분성을 강조한다. 오란드의 작업은 지금 여기, 그녀가 만나는 사람들, 그녀가 방문하는 장소, 살아 있다는 사실 자체를 기념한다. 그녀의 작품은 베를린 국제 영화제, 뉴욕 영화제, 토론토 국제 영화제 등을 비롯하여, 테이트 모던, 하버드 필름 아카이브, 뉴욕 현대 미술관 등 전 세계 영화제와 미술관에서 활발히 상영되고 있다.

또한 우테 오란드는 여성 감독의 영화를 꾸준히 소개하는 기획자로서도 왕성한 활동을 이어왔다. 1990년부터 베를린의 아스널 시네마에서 여성 감독들이 제작한 실험영화를 선보인 <영화노동자의 저녁: Filmarbeiterinnen-Abend> (1990-1996)와 <예를 들어, 당신은: Sie zum Beispiel> (1995-96) 등을 기획했고, 1997년 동료 여성 감독들과 함께 월간 상영 프로그램 <영화 토요일: FilmSamstag>을 시작했으며 2007년까지 진행했다. 2015년 그녀는 베를린 필름 학교의 볼렉스 워크숍을 창설했다.
