Description

The film documents a city park using light, motion, abstraction and film chemistry to render a near-empty space re-activated during the pandemic. Created using a 35mm film tin modified into an outward-looking 59-pinhole camera, it registers images on a single film loop mounted in the tin. Each loop is exposed in one moment with 59 pinhole “lenses” to create as many distinct images that, when presented in series, create a panning of the landscape in various directions. The work was exposed on outdated black & white 35mm print stock acquired from Archives Canada discards, and processed by hand in Caffenol chemistry.

Alex MacKenzie is a Canadian west-coast based media artist, designer, teacher, curator and writer, primarily focused on analog film and the hand-processed image. He creates works of expanded cinema, light projection installation, and projector performance. His films and performances have been presented at festivals, art galleries and underground spaces worldwide.

알렉스 맥켄지(Alex MacKenzie)는 캐나다 서부를 기반으로 활동하는 미디어 아티스트, 디자이너, 교사, 큐레이터 및 작가로, 주로 아날로그 필름과 수작업 이미지에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 그는 확장영화, 조명 프로젝션 설치작업, 프로젝터 퍼포먼스 작품을 제작한다. 그의 영화와 공연은 전 세계 축제, 미술관, 언더그라운드 공간에서 선보였다.
