2019년 여름, 그의 가족들이 떠난 여행은, 그들의 아버지와 남편, 혹은 장인과 함께 한 마지막 여행이 되었다. 나의 장인은 2021년 눈이 오던 1월의 어느날 세상을 떠나셨다. 아내와 함께 장인의 생전모습이 기록된 사진과 영상들을 찾아보다가 2년전 여름, 그 여행의 기록에 시선이 멈췄다. 그의 신체는 우리와 함께 있었지만 종종 그의 정신은 우리가 닿을 수 없는 곳에 가 있었다. 그는 무엇을 보고 있었을까, 그의 시간은 어떻게 흐르고 있었을까. 

이 작품의 시간은 전체적으로 앞으로 나아가지만 프레임 단위에서는 반대로 계속해서 회귀한다. 8프레임, 11프레임, 14프레임씩 뒷걸음질 치는 영화적 시간은 치매에 걸린 그가 시간을 경험하는 방식과 맞닿는다. 앞에서 밀려드는 기차의 풍경처럼 그는 앞으로 나아가는 시간을 몸으로 견뎌내지만 그의 기억은 계속해서 뒷걸음질친다. 

In the summer of 2019, his family's trip was the last one with their father, husband, or father-in-law. My father-in-law passed away one day in January 2021 when it was snowing. I looked up photos and videos of him with my wife and fixed my gaze at the record of the trip two years ago. His body was with us, but often his mind was beyond our reach. What was he looking at, how was his time going? 

The time of this work moves forward as a whole, but continues to reverse in frame units. The cinematic time of eight, eleven, and fourteen frames, which is going backward, is in line with the way he experiences time with dementia. Like the scenery of a train rushing in front of him, his time runes forward, but his memory continues to backtrack.
