Description of work

' Maybe I am a strawberry '는 고바야시의 첫 공개 작품이었으며, 장기 프로젝트인 ' New Gender Bending Strawberry ‘(NGBS)의 빨간 머리를 쓴 것도 이 때가 처음이었다. 영상에서 그는 1963년 마틴 루터 킹 주니어의 '나에겐 꿈이 있습니다' 연설을 인용하고 같은 세계에 공존하기 위해 지구에 상륙한 딸기라는 또 다른 종족에 대한 가사를 썼다. 프로젝트 ' New Gender Bending Strawberry'(NGBS)는 사회에서 비슷한 모습으로 위장한 미래적 생명체를 표현하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 고바야시는 공연과 통합된 멀티미디어 작업을 보여주는데, 자유와 평등을 동시에 지니는 역설적인 상황과 더불어 유토피아의 긍정적인 측면과 인간성의 종말론적인 멸종 사이에서 세계가 어떻게 미래를 잉태할 것인가를 나타낸다. 사람들이 요구하는 평등은 빨간색과 은색의 조각상이 한 인물로 동기화되는 것으로 표현되며, 자유는 퍼포먼스로 객관화되어  표현된다. 공정과 특권에 대한 고찰은 2012년부터 NGBS로서 인간 실존주의를 표현한 고바야시의 작품으로 대표된다.

“Maybe I am a strawberry” was Kobayashi’s very first public performance, and the first time he wore a red head of the long-term project “New Gender Bending Strawberry”(NGBS). In the video he quoted the speech “I have a dream” by Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1963 and wrote lyrics that If there is another race called the strawberry that land on the earth to coexist in the same world. The project “New Gender Bending Strawberry”(NGBS) aims to express the futuristic indistinguishable creature that is characterized as a similar visuality to be camouflaged in the society. Kobayashi represents the multi-media work which is integrated with the performance. It reflects on the earthly condition and reveal the ironic situation to have both freedom and equality as well as how the world will conceive the future between the brightness of utopia and the apocalyptic death of humanity. The equality that people demand is represented by red and silver sculptures being synchronized as a figure, the freedom is represented by objectified with the performance. The investigation of fairness and privilege of people were represented by Kobayashi’s creation of human existentialism as NGBS since 2012.
