많은 사람들이 꽃을 순수하게 장식적이고 심지어 과한 것으로 생각하는 반면, 이 영화의 작가는 꽃의 세계를 자연과 식물, 현대 세계에서 그들의 상품화에 대한 강력한 성찰의 원천으로 생각하는 많은 이유를 본다. 꽃은 일생 동안 수많은 시련을 겪으며, 감탄과 자부심의 대상이 되고, 일자리를 만들고, 먹이가 되기도 한다. 유전자 변형, 수백만 가지 과학 실험, 대륙횡단 경매 등 이 모든 것들은 인간의 문화와 함께 수 세기 동안 발전해 온 꽃의 현대 역사의 일부가 되었고 식물 경제의 중요한 부분을 차지하게 되었다. 이번 영화는 꽃 이야기를 통해 인간과 식물의 관계를 보는 방법을 발견하기 위한 설득력 있는 여정을 보여주는 다큐멘터리 에세이이다. 감독은 국제 꽃 경매에서 스페인 외딴 마을의 시골 이교도 축제까지 가장 모순된 장소에서 답을 찾고 있다. 그러던 중 그녀는 이케바나 미술의 거장, 낭만적인 억만장자, 신비로운 마법에 걸린 많은 방랑자를 만나게 된다. 그녀는 아이들과 꽃들이 하는 말에 귀를 기울인다. '블루 로즈'는 우리에게 꽃처럼 덧없어 보이는 것들이 우리가 살고 있는 세상에 대해 소리를 지르는 것 못지 않게 중요한 교훈을 줄 수도 있다는 것을 상기시켜준다.

While many people think of flowers as something purely decorative and even excessive, the author of this film sees many reasons for considering the world of flowers to be a powerful source for reflection on nature, plants and their commodification in the modern world. During their life cycle flowers go through numerous tribulations, as they serve as objects of admiration and pride, create jobs and even become food. Genetic modification, multimillion science experiments, transcontinental auctions – all of these have become a part of the modern history of flowers that evolved for centuries alongside human culture and made them a crucial part of plant economy . The present film is a documentary essay that takes us on a compelling journey to discover a way of seeing relationships of humans and plants through the stories of flowers. The director looks for answers in the most contradictory of places: from an international flower auction to rural pagan festivity in a remote Spanish village. Along the way she meets a master of Ikebana art, a romantic billionaire and a mysterious enchanted wanderer among many others. She listens to what children and flowers have to say. ‘Blue Rose’ reminds us that such seemingly ephemeral things as flowers, might give a lesson about the world we live in no less important than its screaming counterparts.
