크렌의 이 작품은 사진을 보여주고 그 반응으로 성격과 충동 병리 등을 분석하는 심리학적 검사로 알려진 손디 테스트를 참조한 작품이다. 4분간 다양한 속도감을 가진 장면이 등장하고, 영화 속에서는 얼굴은 극단적으로 클로즈-업으로 인해 눈, 턱, 머리선, 이마 등으로 파편화시킨 이미지가 되고 이따금씩 얼굴 전체가 나온다. 영화는 얼굴의 입을 확대한 이미지로 끝나는데, 너무 가까이 확대해 거의 추상화되어 보인다. 작품 속에서 신체 부위의 원래 모습은 잃은채 형식적 관심의 대상이 된다. (레지나 콘웰)

Kren´s 48 heads refer to a psychological procedure known as the Szondi Test. Running four minutes and shot at various speeds, Kren´s film fragments faces in extreme close-up: eyes, chins, hairlines, foreheads, with an occasional block of images using full-face. The film ends on mouths, viewed so closely as to be nearly abstracted. In 48 Heads body parts lose their original identification and become the subject of formal concerns. (Regina Cornwell)
