1966년 나는 10살이었는데, 북경에서 기차로 3일 걸리는 쿤밍에 살고 있었다. 우리 집 창문 밖으론 문화혁명기 지어졌는데 천안문 광장의 모조품인 붉은 태양 광장을 내다볼 수 있었다. 25년 후 1991년 겨울 나는 북경에 있었다. 수 없이 많은 홍위병의 탄생지인 그곳에서 나는 “대 혁명의 오랜 기억”을 인터뷰하기 시작했다. <1966: 나의 홍위병 시절>은 1년 동안의 노력의 결과물이다. 끝없는 연구와 다양한 사람들과의 끝나지 않는 인터뷰가 지속되었다. 그것은 역사의 터널을 탐험하는 것이었고, 나는 종종 거대한 블랙 홀에 있는 것 같은 느낌이 들었다. 나는 역사의 “매듭을 풀고"자 했으며, 한 시기를 “멈추고"자 희망했다. 이로써 우리는 역사의 움직임을 바라보고, 사람들이 진정 어떻게 살았는지 볼 수 있었다. In 1966 I was ten years old. I lived in Kunming, a city three days by train from Beijing. The window of my house looked out over Red Sun Square in the cen¡tre, an imitation of Tiananmen Square, built during the Cultu¡ral Revolution. Twenty-five years later, in winter 1991, I was in Peking: the birthplace of so many Red Guards. I started to interview these "old timers of the Great Revolution''. The documentary 1966: My Time with the Red Guards, is the result of a whole year's work. Endless research and exhausting interview sessions with various people. It was exploring the tunnel of history; I often had the feeling I was in a huge black hole. I tried to "unravel" history and hope I was able to "stop" time for one period, so that we can look at the movement of history and see how people really lived. (Wu Wenguang)
