알 수 없는 이유로 세상에서 전자기력이 사라졌다. 지구 전체에서 벌어질 일들을 관찰하는 대신에 스리랑카의 교외지역에 살고 있는 가족에게 초점을 맞춘다. 그들의 삶은 우리가 평소에는 감지하지 못하는 이 자연적 힘에 의존하고 있다. 주변부에서 살아가는 이들을 문명의 중심과 연결시켜주는 힘이 갑자기 사라져버린다면 그들에게는 어떤 일이 일어날까? 모든 지식을 상실한 인간 실존처럼 생각할 수도 없는 전자기력처럼 보이지도 않는 것을 어떻게 시각적으로 포착할 수 있을까?
Quite inexplicably, electromagnetic forces cease to be in real. Rather than seeing its effects on a global scale, the focus will be on a suburban family from Sri Lanka, whose lives depend on this force of nature in ways we don’t usually perceive. What happens to those who live in the periphery when what keeps them attached–both physically and figuratively–to the center of civilization, suddenly disappears? How can one visually capture both that which escapes the visual–i.e., electromagnetic forces–as well as the thinkable–i.e., human existence in a reality bereft of all knowledge?

비묵티 자야순다라는 영화감독이자 저널리스트, 영화평론가이다. 5편 이상의 장편 영화와 여러 편의 중단편 영화를 만들었으며, 주변의 삶과 인물들의 묘사를 통찰있게 그려내는 작업들을 해오고 있다. 특히 첫번째 장편영화인 <버려진 땅>(2004)은 스리랑카의 내전을 다룬 내용으로 칸영화제 신인감독상인 황금카메라상을 수상했으며, 다수의 단편영화들은 칸영화제, 로테르담 국제영화제, 베를린 국제영화제, 토론토 국제영화제, 베니스 국제영화제 등에서 상영되었다.
Vimukthi Jayasundara is Journalist, film critic, and screenwriter, he attended the Institute for Film and Television in Pune, India, from 1998 to 2001. After making The Land of Silence, a documentary in black and white about the victims of the civil war which was selected for several festivals (Marseilles, Rotterdam, Berlin). In 2004 he directed his first feature, The Forsaken Land, which was awarded the Camera d'Or at the Festival de Cannes 2005.
