스웨덴 텔레비전에 의해 제작된 이 작품은 스웨덴 아이들이 원폭투하의 경험에 관한 일본 아이들이 경험 및 생존에 대해 쓴 글을 읽는 것을 다룬다.영화속에서 우리는 이 아이들이 그린 이미지와 그림을 본다. 히로시마 원폭 투하 5년 후 히로시마 대학의 한 교육학 교수가 그 재앙적인 폭발의 현장에 있었던 사람들의 이야기를 기록하기 위해 프로젝트를 기획했다. 가장 나이가 어린 증인이 치우침없이 자신의 경험에 대해 이야기할 것을 알고, 오사다 교수는 히로시마의 초등학교, 고등학교, 대학생들이 쓴 2,000여 개의 작문을 수집했다. 1951년 출간된 이래 일본에서 베스트셀러로 자리 잡은 '폭탄 속의 아이들-히로시마 피폭 어린이들의 수기’은 가장 대표적인 책이다. 영어로 번역된 이 첫 번째 설명서는 6년이 지난 지금도 여전히 고통스러울 정도로 뚜렷한 기억을 전 세계에 들려준다. This work produced by Swedish television, where Swedish kids reads texts written by Japanese kids about their experiencing of and surviving the bombings. In the film we see images/drawings painted by these children. Nestlers inspiration comes from the book Children of the A Bomb "Five years after the atom bomb fell on Hiroshima, a Professor of Education at Hiroshima University organized a project to preserve for the record the stories of those who had been on the receiving side of that catastrophic explosion. Knowing that the youngest witness would be the most impartial, Professor Osada collected more than 2,000 compositions written by grade school, high school and university students of Hiroshima. One hundred and five of the most representative make up the book, GENBAKU NO KO (Children of the A-Bomb), which has been a best seller in Japan since its publication in 1951. Translated into English, these first hand accounts bring to the rest of the world the searing memories, still painfully clear six years later, pf the fourth grader who tells us, "I was only four then, so I didn't know what it was all about"; of the high school boy who still hears the voices calling for help under the collapsed and flaming roofs; of the child who did not understand until three years later that all that left of Mother was in that small, white-wrapped box. Of all the literature on the subject of the A-bomb, this is the least propaganda-ridden. The children have no axe to grind. They have simply told their stories. (Martin Grennberger)
