김응수는 1966년 충주에서 태어났고, 서울대학교에서 심리학을 공부하였다. 이후, 한국과 외국에서 영화를 공부했지만 중도포기하고, 영화는 오직 개인적인 탐구와 습작으로 공부하였다. 1996년 극영화 <시간은 오래 지속된다>로 데뷔하고 몇 편의 극영화를 만들었지만, 2006년 <천상고원>이후 극영화와 다큐멘터리가 혼재된 작품을 하였으며, 2012년 <아버지 없는 삶> 이래에는 주로 다큐멘터리를 만들었지만, 현재는 장르가 없다고 하는 편이 옳을 것이다. 물론 궤적 안에는 에세이 필름과 비디오 아트도 있다. 이 변화는 다양한 장르에 대한 사적 호기심을 표현하기도 하지만, 영화란 무엇인가에 대한 답을 찾아나가는 과정이라고도 할 수 있다.
Kim, Eung-su was born in Chungju in 1966 and studied psychology at Seoul National University. Later, he studied filmmaking at the university in Korea and Russia but, dropped out later. Kim’s artistic approach to filmmaking was completed through his research and various practices on the medium. Although he made his debut in 1996 with Time Lasts, he has done a mix of narrative features and documentaries since Heavenly Path in 2006, and since Without a Father in 2012, he has mostly made documentaries, but it is right to say that there is no concrete genre categorize his body of film works at the moment. Of course, inside the trajectory, there are essay films and video art. This change expresses personal curiosity about various genres, but it is also the process of finding answers to what cinema can be.
전준혁은 위스콘신주립대학 밀워키에서 실험영화를 전공했다. 공간과 사물들을 카메라에 담는 배회와 관찰을 주된 작업 방식으로 삼으며 그렇게 채집한 이미지들로 다양한 실험적인 단편영화들을 만들어왔다. <층>, <서피스>, <트랜슬레이터>, <글라이더> 등의 다수의 국내외 영화제를 통해 소개되었다. 현재 서경대학교 영화영상학과 전임교수로 재직 중이다.
Jeon, June-Hyuck majored in experimental video at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee campus. He has made several experimental shorts with casually gathered footage of space and things while strolling in the cityscape. Layers, Surface, Translator, Glider, and some other shorts have been introduced to various festivals including Jeonju International Film Festival, EXiS, Milwaukee Filmfest, Beloit film fest, etc. Currently, he is working at Seokyeong University, Film & Digital Media dept. as an assistant professor.
이장욱
이장욱은 서강대학교에서 신문방송학을 시카고예술대학에서 영화제작을 공부했다. 그는 2004년 아시아에서 처음으로 예술가들이 운영하는 현상소이자 작업실인 ‘스페이스셀'을 설립했다. 1990년대 후반 부터 실험영화, 퍼포먼스, 설치 등 다양한 작품을 발표해 오고 있으며 한국과 유럽, 북미의 여러 페스티벌과 뮤지엄에서 작품이 소개되었다. 현재 수원대학교에서 영화를 가르치고 있다.
Lee, Jang-Wook studied filmmaking at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), is a founder of the Space Cell one of the first artist-run film Lab in Asia since 2004. His main idea of filmmaking is about combining the trace of medium specificity as the analog film processing with his personal records. His works introduced many international & local film festivals such as Oberhausen, Black Maria, Tate Modern, FIDMarseille, and Jeonju etc. He co-curated many screening events and organized the filmmaking workshops with various organizations; MMCA Seoul, Asia Cultural Center, and Los Otros, etc. He’s a professor at the College of Convergence Culture Arts, University of Suwon.
