Bio

Terri Sarris’ creative work includes award-winning feature and short films (shot on 16mm, Super 8mm film, and digital media), film and television scripts, and work as a curator, programmer, film festival board member, and festival juror in the larger media community. Her toy and puppet film allegories, inspired by European stop-motion filmmakers, (Jiri Trnka, Ladislav Starevicz, and Jan Swankmeyer) have screened at Festivals and curated programs nationally and internationally. Terri performs original live scores for classic silent films with the musical toy trio "Little Bang Theory," the brainchild of award-winning composer, Frank Pahl. In fall 2022, LBT performed with Benshi Yamauchi Nanako to the classic Japanese experimental film A Page of Madness at Ann Arbor's Michigan Theater, with Theatre Gigante in Milwaukee, and at the Detroit Film Theater (Supported by the Center for Japanese Studies and curated by Mark Nornes). LBT has multiple bookings for 2024, including performances with the films "The Lodger" and "The Wind.

테리 사리스의 창작 활동은 장편 및 단편영화(16mm, 슈퍼 8mm 필름 및 디지털 매체로 촬영), 영화와 텔레비전 대본 작업, 그리고 더 넓은 영상 문화 공동체에서의 큐레이터, 프로그래머, 영화제 이사회 구성원 및 심사위원으로서의 활동을 포함한다. 유럽의 스톱모션 영화감독들인 이르지 트릉카, 라디슬라프 스타레비치, 얀 슈반크마예르에게 영향을 받은 그녀의 장난감과 인형을 활용한 우화적 영화들은 국내외 영화제와 기획 프로그램에서 상영되어 왔다.

테리는 수상 경력의 작곡가 프랭크 팔이 창안한 음악 장난감 트리오 ‘리틀 뱅 시어리(Little Bang Theory)’의 일원으로서 고전 무성영화에 직접 작곡한 라이브 음악을 연주하기도 한다. 2022년 가을, 이들은 일본 변사 야마우치 나나코와 함께 일본 고전 실험영화 《광기의 한 페이지》(A Page of Madness)를 앤아버의 미시간 극장, 밀워키의 시어터 기간테, 디트로이트 필름 시어터에서 공연했다. 이 공연은 일본학연구센터의 지원을 받았으며 마크 노른스가 기획했다. 리틀 뱅 시어리는 《하숙인》(The Lodger)과 《바람》(The Wind)을 비롯한 여러 작품과 함께 다수의 공연 일정을 예정하고 있다.
