Bio

Motoko is a Seoul-based audiovisual artist. He explores the mechanisms of optical, chemical, and mechanical apparatuses through real-time renderers and signal processing environments, treating them as (quasi-)devices that provide technical support for critical reflection on cinematic machinery. Grounded in device-oriented thinking, his practice investigates the conditions of sound and image, expanding them into the format of live performance as a way to experiment with the apparatus as a critical medium. He has performed at ELEKTRA Festival in Montreal, WeSA Festival, dotolim, and Post Territory Ujeongguk, and his works have been screened at the Jeonju International Film Festival, DMZ International Documentary Film Festival, and the Experimental Film and Video Festival in Seoul (EXiS).

모토코는 서울을 기반으로 활동 중인 시청각 예술가이다. (영화-)장치를 사유하기 위한 기술적 지지체로서의 리얼타임 렌더러와 시그널 프로세싱 환경을 바탕으로 광학-적, 화학-적, 기계-적 장치의 메커니즘을 (유사-)장치로서 재환기하고자 분투한다. 장치적 사유를 근간으로 소리와 이미지, 제반 조건들의 연구를 통해 이를 라이브 퍼포먼스의 형식으로 확장하여 비평적 장치로서 기능함을 실험한다. ELEKTRA Festival, WeSA Festival, 닻올림, 탈영역우정국 등에서 공연하였고 전주국제영화제, DMZ국제다큐멘터리영화제, 서울국제실험영화페스티벌 등에서 상영하였다.
