예술공간 돈키호테는 전라남도 순천에서 2009년 12월에 독립연출가 박혜강, 독립큐레이터 이명훈 두 사람에 의해 설립되었다. 돈키호테는 동시대 예술을 연구하고 다양한 분야의 실험적 예술 프로그램을 기획, 지원해왔으며 지역의 역사와 문화 연구, 매체 교육, 실험영화, 동시대 비음악(Contemporary non-Music), 아티스트 레지던스 프로그램 등을 실행해왔다. 돈키호테는 EXiS에 상영하기도 했던 변재규, 박병래 작가와 별도의 전시 및 커미션 프로젝트를 통해 <사진 측량>, <화포이경> 등의 영상 작품 제작을 지원하였다. 최근에는 전라남도와 순천의 문화 예술의 역사와 특수성에 대한 다양한 연구와 출판 프로젝트를 진행하고 있다.
Art Space Donquixote was co-founded by independent theater director Park, Hyekang and independent curator Lee, Myunghoon in Suncheon, winter 2009. Donquixote engages in researching contemporary art, and as a local platform it offers various programs that promote experimental art. It curates a Contemporary non-Music series, holds moving image & experimental film screenings, and runs an artist residency program. Recently Donquixote produced Hawpo directed by Pak, Byounglae, a project commissioned through the Contemporary non-Music program, and Photographic Survey directed by Byun, Jaekyu, created through the artist residency program. Those artists have showed their work in past EXiS’ competitive and thematic sections. Donquixote has recently been conducting various research and publishing projects on the history of cultural arts specific to Jeollanamdo and Suncheon.
