"Inside the train from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen, the snow-covered landscape and the darkness of the tunnel, three windows offer serene yet ever-changing impressions." 

The train is moving forward without stopping. In a single timeline, forward-moving time encounters backward-moving time. Time and space break down between frames, finely dividing each second. While the window remains stationary, the world outside changes. This film does not aim to capture the landscape as a lifelike portrayal but strives to visualize the world more precisely through vibrations of shapes and colors. I edited the film by placing two different sources on one timeline through improvised typing. The first edit sets the rhythm, and the duration of the “typing performance” determines the film’s length. The film holds the potential to reach completion and to be infinitely created. I employed multi-camera editing, commonly used in broadcast studios, to create an unending movie. Aiming to blend the space between different moments and the space between spaces, I utilized DVO Fix, a tool used to restore films digitally. Drawing inspiration from these alternative techniques, I challenge the boundaries of filmmaking and incorporate the accompanying results into my creation.

기차는 멈추지 않고 앞으로 나아가고 있습니다. 하나의 타임라인에서 직진하는 시간과 거꾸로 되돌린 시간이 만납니다. 시공간이 프레임 사이에서 뭉개지고 순간들은 미분합니다. 창문은 멈춰 있지만 창밖의 세상은 변화하고 있습니다. 이 영화가 표현하려는 것은 풍경을 사실적으로 포착하고 묘사하는 것이 아니라 형태와 색채의 진동으로 세상을 더 정확하게 표현하려는 것입니다. 두 개의 소스가 얹어진 실시간 타임라인에서 일종의 즉흥적인 타이핑 연주로 영화를 편집했습니다. 최초의 편집이 영화의 리듬이 되고, 편집한 시간이 영화의 길이가 됩니다. 영화는 잠정적으로 완성되는 동시에 무한하게 만들어질 가능성을 갖습니다. 무한한 영화를 위해 방송 등에서 사용하는 멀티 카메라 편집 기법을 영화 작업에 사용했습니다. 시간과 시간 사이, 공간과 공간 사이를 분쇄하기 위해 필름을 디지털 복원하는 데 쓰이는 DVO FIX 기능을 사용했습니다. 이러한 대체 기술들을 영감의 원천으로 삼아 필름메이킹의 한계에 도전하고 거기서 발생하는 현상을 창작에 활용했습니다.

Kim Ji-hwan explores the theme of "Memories of Space" through film and digital media. He holds a master's degree in documentary from the Korea National University of Arts.

김지환은 필름과 디지털 매체로 '공간의 기억'을 주제로 한 작품을 만듭니다. 한국예술종합학교에서 다큐멘터리 전문사 과정을 수료했습니다. <눈 내리는 기차>는 그의 두 번째 영화입니다.
